TriGGa
I use it as my "main" account. Not had any problems. Maybe Gmail is experiencing problems? Try checking back in about 10-15 mins?

simonb
Seemed to be in the wrong setting. Needs 'HTML setting' rather than standard setting. Odd - never had this problem with Yahoo or Hotmail. Still - spam-free so far so i'm happy enough. Plus, easy to get names as not a lot of people have it yet! Mine is @'googlemail.com' too - rather than gmail!
Sparky
Googlemail.com is beause a UK company has the copyright to the Gmail name, and have forced Google to change it. Early adopters have a gmail.com account. Only new accounts now have the longer address.
sayerbloke
I heard they may be handing out gmail.co.uk next as well, which the other company [independent International Investment Research] don't have the rights to. Link
syeldham
There is some doubt still as to whether the current users are allowed to keep their @gmail.com suffix, too.
