Fieldgate
vs the 130i On the rolling road, the R32 only put out 217hp (vs 246 claimed) yet still managed a 5.8 0-60 as a non-DSG. Was a tight engine and they want to test another. Grill still looks ar$e on a silver car.
MattR32
It got a damn good lap time too! Wonder how one with the full bhp would do?
TP27
I think that if anyone hates the silver nose, ask the Dealer to have it colour coded in the factory as part of your order. If enough of us demand this, VW might get the message? It's going to be part of my spec anyway!
RedRobin
I'm going to reserve judgement on that silver codpiece until I see one in the flesh on the test drive I've been offered. I suspect it may look better in the flesh. It's the alloys I don't like....Not changeable as a factory option but surely as aftermarket?
TP27
Robin. On my old R, I used the stock Aristo's over the winter only and has BBS Challenge wheels with GYF1's over the summer - brilliant combination. I'll be doing the same with the new R, albeit, I'll have to buy replacement BBS's due to the different offset on the MkV!! TP.
magrillz
Am I being completly blind. got evo yesterday and was shocked as couldnt find anything on the new R32? Maybe I need to double check, definately the new issue with the review of Focus ST and first look at the new TT?

Its all dwn to programming in teh right numbers at the start!
nicks3
The rolling road needs to be a specila 4wd one or the figures will be out.
Smudge
Worse actually Nick, it would feck the Haldex, unless they "pull" the chip, but I've also heard this isn't right either.
nicks3
I reckon thats why the bhp was down....
MattR32
I would have thought the EVO rolling road is pretty slick though - Looks state of the art to me.
Smudge
I haven't seen the article yet, but I'm fairly sure Evo don't have their very own RR somehow.
MattR32
They don't but they now try and RR all the cars they test at (this is from memory so may be wrong) WRC rolling road at Silverstone race track.

MattR32
I worded it badly tbh. The way EVOs going though, it wouldn't suprise me if they get their own RR soon!
NewNiceMrMe
I'm surprised that after all these posts nobody has mentioned the fact that EVO said they'd buy an M 130i instead....

[/ QUOTE ] Probably because its the better car, but for some of us looks are important as well. But saying that the MKV / new .:R isn't stunning by any means. MattR32
The 130i is pig ugly and has almost no rear seats and comes with the burden of the BMW badge attached. It's also 2WD. Not for me.
TP27
Top Gear (December 2005 p86) give the new R a mediocre write up, their general conclusion being that the R is too heavy and expensive over the MkV GTi. Each to their own!!
jimbor32
The 130 is not the car it should be - although it gets good reviews in Evo - the reviews in Car, Autocar, and Auto express all suggested the R32 was a better all rounder - Apart from anything else the BMW is horrible looking, and is pretty steeply priced (ok the r32 aint cheap, but at least it is better value)
paulwbriggs
In CAR mag the previous month the R32 was judged better. They're clearly very closely matched and which you prefer will be based on your particular circumstances. For me I prefer the practicality of the VW's better internal size and boot, the fact that it's 4-wheel drive system will provide far superior traction in the frequently wet UK roads, and because of the DSG. Can't deny that I looked long and hard at the BM though.

Smudge
Be interesting to see what responses this thread would get in one of our BM forums. I like the look of neither, but I can't help but feel that dealer service & build quality would be marginally better with BMW over VW? If I were Stevie Wonder I know which I'd probably drive.
