dq1
Just had the car MOT'd and there was a note to say exhaust was rusting, didn't fail though. Is this another of those 'common' faults on A3's or this just bad luck?
Soapsuds
how old is it?? they are only mild steel and will go eventually, unless you purchase a lifetime guarantee stainless system... ££'s!!!
dq1
It's as old as the car i.e. x reg 2000, would have though it would last longer than 5 years
Soapsuds
depends - if you leave it stood for long periods / do short journeys, the fluid sits on the inside and starts to rot. Same happens from the outside, then you get a hole! 5 years from a zorst is ok in my book!!! Cheapskate ......
dq1
You learn something new everyday. I only work 2 miles (yep I'm a lazy bar steward and a cheap skate!!) from home so there's the probable cause.
Soapsuds
that will certainly be it then!!! EVERY car my wife has had has been the same - short trips and some non-use - its a killer, not only for exhausts, but for engine wear and tear, mashing oil etc.! Make sure you service her very regularly if you are doing such short trips often.... Or buy a bloody bike!!!
