Lived in London for 7 years, more specifically Enfield, so White Rose just down the road from me.

Had enough of the smog and decided to preserve my sanity by moving back up North.

I'm really a Scotsman but have lived in the North East for the larger part of my life.

Thanks for your help, I called White Rose and to be honest they wern't to helpful or friendly on the phone so I followed another threadon this site and went to see Mastertec in Mordon south London, which is a pain to get too for me. Having said that they spent most of an hour looking over me new purchase and gave it a comprehensive health check and have given me a break down of work and costs that seem reasonable. The young men running the place seem very honest, so I am booking in next week and I shall let you know how it goes.

This strikes me as being very, very strange. For one thing;I'd like to know of a main dealer , or for that matter,an independent specialist/garage who would

a/ spend an HOUR (unpaid ?!) 'looking over' a car ?

In the past, whenever I brought my car into a main

d(st)ealer, they charged me for as much as sneezing (*that is how it seemed to me) , so I just don't buy it that anyone ,even an independent working out of lower overheads, can afford to spend an hour unpaid. (*Trust me;I'm an accountant)

and

b/ what on earth is a 'comprehensive health check' when it's at home ? And,in the space of an hour ??? ? Unpaid ?? are you seriously telling me that, without the aid of plugging the car into diagnostics (or whatever) they can tell what's what with your car ? Especially if they've only 'looked over' it ?!!!

and

c/ on the basis of the above, they've given you a breakdown of work and costs before they've even taken the car in - and found out what is the state of it ? I know a quote is one thing, but I don't think there is one person on this forum who has ever gone into ANY establishment and got a precise breakdown of what work is definitely needed to be done before the car has actually gone in to be worked on / investigated properly.I know you can tell so much by basic things like milegage and likelihood of timing belt needing to be changed.....but even if you have the service schedule to give to them to look over ,they're surely not going to be able to give you a definitive 'this is what MUST be done' report prior to them having the car and getting their hands dirty on it (*and I'm not talking about an hour long simply 'having a look')

I'm going to put myself out on a limb here - so I apologise (and to the Mods) if this is not the case - but I'm afraid some of your posts look very strange to me.

I visit this forum a fair bit, make the odd post now and then and ,more than that, like to read other interested peoples' posts - especially if they are genuine and given in good faith........ but it really annoys me if people come on here with the specific intention of posting spurious claims which perhaps are not written by the end-customer that they are purporting to be.

IN RESPONSE TO ALAISTAR, I FIRSTLY SAY THAT SMARTMART IS NOT ONE OF US PRETENDING TO BE A CUSTOMER AS YOU SEEM TO BE IMPLYING, SECONDLY I AM SUPRISED THAT YOU ARE DISCREDITING AN INDEPENDENT DEALER (WHO YOU HAVE NEVER USED) WHO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO DELIVER A GOOD SERVICE, JUST BECAUSE IT IS THE NORM FOR STEALERS AS YOU CALL THEM TO BEHAVE THIS WAY. ALL OF OUR TECHNICANS HAVE SUBSTANTIAL DEALER TRAINING AND FOR THAT REASON WE KNOW HOW SOME DEALERS OPERATE WHICH IS PRECISELY WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT. WITH REGARDS TO US WE DID NOT QUOTE ANY COSTS BEFORE SEEING THE CAR AND AS HARD AS YOU MAY FIND IT TO BELEIVE, WE DIDNT CHARGE HIM ANY LABOUR TO CHECK HIS CAR OVER (FOR OVER AN HOUR IN ALL) IT IS VERY HARD IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES TO SET UP AND DEVELOP A GOOD REPUTATION AS AN HONEST INDEPENDANT SPECIALISTS WITHOUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU IRRESPONSIBLY SLAGING US OFF WITHOUT TAKING THE TIME TO FIND OUT ABOUT US OR OUR SERVICES, WHICH YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVENT MANY THANKS DAVID.(MASTERTECHS)

Are you trying to say that you are above criticism BECAUSE you are an independent dealer ? I don't follow the logic.

You'll see from my post that I am not libelling you per se;I am simply stating that his post was 'strange'(not posts made in your name).

You'll also note my 'disclaimer' as well....I don't have an axe to grind against you or whatever services you are offering, but what really gets my goat is seemingly'spurious' claims. That is all. You've said you didn't make that post, and I'm happy to apologise (*and did apologise)for voicing my concern.

Far from it ; I'm not being irresponsible.

I come to this forum in good faith because I am genuinely interested, like to get away from work once in a while and,as pointed out in original post above,I freely apologise (and apologised, past tense,in the original post) if this is indeed the case.

I felt I had a valid point to make and so I made it.

Why don't we see the likes of , I don't know, the CEO or whatever of VAG coming on here and squaring up to all the various criticisms that are regularly being thrown around here with all the main dealer franchises ??

You could simply have said the first line of your post above and left it at that...rather than trying to bait me (*who could be a potential customer, who knows) and just being 'unpleasant'.

I am left with a really uncomfortable impression about this ...;and ,to be fair,I think your response has not entirely made me feel any more comfortable.

I'm left with the feeling that you either monitor/police this forum all day every day...are you going to be like this to anyone / everyone (or maybe ,I don't know,a problem customer )who dares to make a controversial comment in the future about you ?

I hope not.

Like I said;I have absolutely no axe to grind against you.

Ok ? Let's just clear the air and call it quits.

A.

I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH COMMENTS THAT ARE MAYBE CONTROVERSIAL AS LONG AS THE PEOPLE MAKING THEM ARE MAKING THEM FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCES AND NOT JUST SUGGESTING THIS IS WHAT THE DEAL IS WITHOUT EVER EXPERIENCING IT FIRSTHAND.AS FOR ME/US MONITORING THIS FORUM, FAR FROM IT, LIKE ANY BUSINESS ITS JUST NICE TO MONITOR FEEDBACK OF CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE USED US POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE

AlaisterM I am new to forums and am just trying to share information.

I can see where you are going with your smashfreakB.gifinsinuations it would be easy to do.Try emailing me through the site and I will try to prove to you I have nothing to do with Mastertec other than being one of there customers.

It sounds to me like you need to get yourself round there to check them out for yourself, the maybe you could write me an apology....

White Rose Motors in Southgate are well-known and very friendly VAG specialists, if that's anywhere near you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Ditto, have used them and they are very good. 169144-ok.gif

My mate used them for his Golf Clipper, and ended up with no electrics, and two 'new' tyres that were actually remoulds. One bad experience I guess, but I wouldn't use them!

Hi all newbie to tyresmoke. always on the lookout for a good independant. a mate recommended white rose to me (he had a golf) had a service no probs but had to change my waterpump so i got a quote to do my timing belt as well. was given a quote over the phone for the cambelt but they neglected to inform me that this was exclusive of vat and then

charged me labour for taking off the waterpump something audi dealers dont even charge for. on top of that my bumper wasn't refitted properly either and they were reluctant to refit it. Finally when i asked for the audi long life sparkplugs to be used they gave me NKG's and couldn't believe i checked what plugs they had put in.

so IMO use white rose (southgate) at your own peril !!!

the total cost wasn't far off what i would have paid a main stealer by the time they bumped me for the timing belt and pump work
