Schemeloong
Greetings does anybody know what's the 2.0 TFSI OEM motor oil's viscosity? Read thru the whole manual and it doesn't say! Only got the parts number for the VW original oil. Thanx

GTiMK5
I think the oil is different depending on what service schedule you are on. Longlife oil is different to normal as far as I know although I guess most are set up for long life as standard.
RedRobin
Just because I have strong and vivid memories of smelling the air thick with Castrol R....Is it still produced? Does it still smell so good? And is it okay for the GTI Mk5?
DB6Vantage
I wasn't around when it was a common drink...but rest assured it smells wonderful these days...! On a GTi I wouldn't try it. Its 10w 60.
Schemeloong
I tried the Millers 10W60 oil with my GTI and it was a disaster, low end and mid end torque are both gone, immediately drained it after used it for like 400miles. Seems like this engine cannot take thick motor oil even in hot climates.
zoomx3
interesting schemeloong, i'd imagine thicker oil would have more resistance plus given the amount of total surface area pistons have against the walls, it'd make quite a difference. yes, i was initially surprised the recommended oils that its up to "30". Schemeloong
Now I am using Motul 300V 10W40 oil and the car's low-midrange magic is back!
rogerlomman
ULX make custom blended mineral oils in various ratings but not sure if there is a 0w40 available. I have used these oils in road cars through to V8 Supercars with excellent results. Always see 4-8 RWKW increase on the dyno for road cars and chemical analysis on the race cars shows lower wear rates too. No I'm not affiliated, just a happy customer. DB6Vantage
If you intend to have the Longlife service program, don't play with your oil. Im sure the GTi is a great car, capable of its very best performance without playing about with its oil. I have one british car wich I have to fill up with oil often since it is on an "automatic" oil change program, and another which I just have to top up sometimes but its almost 40 years old. I really see no point in trying different oils for the GTi. Im sure VW engineers know why 0 W30 is best for this car.

RedRobin
Very sensible....I won't be playing around with my oil either!
DB6Vantage
By the way, before anyone asks me what the "automatic" oil change program is, imagining some fancy peiece of British engineeering, its just a heavy leaking engine!
