bazza_g
A little big geeeky this post but quite cool ! Saw a test today with a 'real' self-contained mobile (not a huge box emmulator) managing 4-5 Mbps data transmission using High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) over W-CDMA which has a theoretical max of 8-10 Mbps Told you it was geeky

And I imagine it'll cost a fortune to start with, but it'll come down, as these things invariably do.
bazza_g
[ QUOTE ] So who was the test with. [/ QUOTE ] afraid I can't say but it was more a test of the chipset rather than a specific handset manufacturer apparently this technology has the potential to get close to 15-20Mbps !! [/ QUOTE ] In theory any current UK 3G operator is able to deploy the Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) implementation of HSDPA over their current 3G (W-CDMA) networks, it may not be as far away as you think

Omi
Yeah Bazza, NodeB to MS with the appropriate chipsets, but the ATM backbone network is sorely limited. - Until the UMTS council get their fingers out of their arses and make some changes to the industry standards that we're all tied to, this is pie in the sky. bazza_g
ok, things need beefing up a bit behind the scenes - the main thing with HSDPA is it requires large bandwidth links to the cellular site -meaning more and more cash to splash by the networks ! Some networks have got the right idea - Manx Telecom launched the first stage of their HSDPA network yesterday offering 1.3Mbps ! here
