Hi all,

OK so I have a week to go before delivery. So to stop myself crawling up the wall, I'm thinking of purchasing a few bits to add onto the car.

Anyone got any suggestions ??

I am interested in hooking up my IPOD. Whats the best route, new head unit, or a link to the Symphony Head unit ??

Cheers

I'd steer clear of FM transmitters and tape adapters. You want a proper connection.

In my previous car, I replaced the OEM CD Radio, with a Clarion unit with an auxiliary input. It was then a simple case to get a lead to connect the iPod. The main reason I took this route was the OEM unit had no Aux-In or CD multichanger plug to take advantage of.

However, for my Audi I have opted for the Dension Ice>Link. Bought from here. I couldn't find anywhere else cheaper, plus their delivery was free.

I've also changed the headlight bulbs, a la UBM.

How about going for Phatnoise instead, works from the OEM head unit like a CD Changer and tucks away in the glovebox or boot so you haven't got any clutter 169144-ok.gif

Mirror caps and bulbs are a good buy too ECLIPSe.gif

There's two ways you can do it. I haven't installed mine yet, so I will quote the manual.

Dension User Interface

[*] No control on iPod keys

[*]Extended radio or steering wheel controls including iPod content browsing

[*]iPod displays song information (and menu)

[*]Timer counter and track information on radio

[*]ID3 information on radio (if supported)

[*]Text display on car display area (if supported by the entertainment system)

iPod user interface

[*]Full control on iPod

[*]Limited radio or steering wheel control (Next/Back, FF/RW only)

[*]iPod displays standard content

[*]No timer counter and track information

[*]No ID3 information

[*]No text display

So does anyone know if the Symphony 2 will support ID3 and support the song titles ??? 169144-ok.gif

If he already has an iPod, then Phatnoise would be an unnecessary expense. Especially if, like the above post states, it doesn't support titles either. (I don't know myself.)

Let's be honest though, does it really matter about title support? If you already have an iPod, then the cheapest, and imo best option, would to continue with your plan to connect it using an Ice Link, or equivalent hardware.

A new head unit is a potentially expensive last resort and will spoil the look of the dashboard. Some may argue fitting the iPod to the dashboard, as I intend to do, also spoils the look. If you agree, then simply hide it in the glovebox or arm rest.
