novarallyman
I have an A6 2.5Tdi180 Quattro Sport and would like to see if I can get some more power out of it. I have bben reading through this forum and can not find anyone who has modified this engine, everyone is talking about the 1.9 or 2.0 engines. Does anyone have any experience with tuning this engine ?
R32North
I've heard about a couple that have been tuned to 200hp and 220hp, with impressive torque figures. However, I have no specific details. I'd simply call the tuners, ie Revo, AMD, Superchips, etc and see what they have to say! I'll looking to get rid of my R32 for an A4 or A6 2.5 Tdi 180 and then get it remapped as well, so if you do find out anything I'd be gratefull if you posted up here. Rustynuts
Superchips webpage shows an increase of 20bhp, up to 200bhp. All for only £511 + vat.

Mook
Not looking at price, I used to run an Audi Allroad with the 2.5 TDI 180 engine. www.amdtechnik.com played with it for about £500 i.i.r.c. - bhp up to 240 and torque up to a stupid 380 lb/ft. Totally transformed the car, even at 1.8 tonnes. Going from 100 to 130 (in mainland Europe) was a blast. You know you need to do it... HTH
Darkside
Mook, was that 240bhp shown on a rolling road? That seems a pretty impressive increase. AmD and Revo only state about 30bhp addition on their web pages. Are they conservative figures? If 240 is acheivable then it looks like I know what my next Audi is! garreth64
I've a 2.5TDi Quattro A4 and have been talking to AMD. There are doing remaps wirh No Vat at the moment - £550 all in. They have told me to expect around +35bhp and +40lbls torque, which would take it up to around 215bhp and 310lb/ft I'm due a service in a couple of weeks and was going to get that out of the way first and maybe then...... [/ QUOTE ] Plug in boxes are nothing to do real tuning. They fool the ECU into thinking more air is being pulled in, and as a result it overfuels the engine, giving black smoke, harsh acceleration etc etc Many think its a good way to avoid warranty issues, but as soon as technician plugs up the diagnostics.....every error code will be read like a book Regards

[/ QUOTE ] Dyno'd by AmD when they did the remap, so yes. The car was 183 bhp to start with (slightly up on the standard 180PS quoted by Audi). I will definitely be getting another 2.5 TDI or 3.0 TDI when the time comes around to being sensible again (when the R32 goes). It's a shame AmD don't have a 2.5 TDI demonstrator - this would sell you on the conversion straightaway. Don't forget that the power and torque increases marketed by the (good) tuning companies always err on the side of caution, so AmD's saying 30 bhp increase would give you the minimum you should expect. It would be a lot harder for them to quote an increase of 50+ bhp and then only deliver 48 bhp. It is also AmD's way of winning new customers by way of referral "Well they said they'd get 30 bhp extra, but I actually got 50 bhp. Here's their number - go get yours done". Darkside
Mook, How much quicker does the R32 feel than the AmD'd A4? Up around the same power mark, both 4wd drive but guess the A4 is a bit heavier? With that massive amount of tdi torque I would have thought from 40mph plus, performance wise in a straight line they would be fairly similar? Mook
I don't remember what a standard R32 goes like - AmD played with my R as well and it runs 312 bhp now The 2.5 TDI had such a short rev range to play with (from 2K to 4K) it would be very difficult to do a direct comparison - but the stock R32 would win hands down as it's lighter to the tune of about 400 kg over the Allroad, which came in around 1850 kg Still a great car and a cracking engine though
Darkside
312bhp! Awesome. I think AmD are certainly the way forward. Looking at a new car and someone on here suggested a R32. An S3 has its standard component limits around 270bhp so perhaps an R is worth looking at. Cheers mate.
Mook
The S3 is a cracking car, but you're right that there are limits on the 1.8T in terms of cranking the power any further. The running gear will cope with a lot more bhp - you just have to start replacing some major engine components like the pistons and crankshaft, as well as the clutch, if you want to get a reliable 300+ bhp S3 AmD have played with all of my cars for the past 4 years - I can't recommend them highly enough. When you get up there, make sure you speak to Ed, one of the sales/service reps - he runs a 1.8T Golf with 450+ bhp A lot of money on the mods and totally mental
