Superchipped

I took my B7 A4 2.0TDI to Race Sport International near Exeter yesterday (my nearest Superchips fitting centre), they run a GT racing team as well as doing road car performance upgrades.

It was a small family run place, Pete was very helpful right from stage one and talked me through everything which was going on with the car and showed me what was happening throughout.

At first he tried flashing the diagnostics port but it wasn't having any of it, so he had to physically remove the ECU and flash it using the 10 contact pins. It took quite some time removing the ECU, I can't believe how difficult they are to get into, although he told me the Audi's have easy ECUs to get at!

After the ECU was out he sent my original map directly to superchips which sent back an exact match to my car instantly, and then he flashed my ECU with the new map which took no time at all, then put it back together and tested the car started ok. (The entire process took a little over two hours, although I'm told its much quicker for other cars which can be flashed through the diagnostics port).

When pulling out onto the main road, it was rush hour so I had to put my foot down, at first I couldn't believe it, in first the car just shot to redline, second was even quicker, but third was best of all, it just kept pulling until the redline rather than the stock program would have a burst of torque between 2-3k and drop off after that.

I haven't really tried out the power in 4th,5th and 6th yet as there are no dual carriageways round here, but the low/mid torque in those gears is awesome now.

I am very impressed with the results and service of Superchips, it was 450 quid (no VAT charged), and worth every penny. My car is so much fun to drive now.

If you have got a TDI and it's not chipped, I suggest you go and have the treatment at Superchips! I talked myself in and out of a chip for ages, and all I wish now is that I'd had it done sooner!

The power now should be between 180-190bhp, as most TDIs are a bit over the stock claimed power, and the superchips remap gave nearly 40bhp increase. As for torque I should imagine it's approaching 300lbs/ft, and the delivery is much more agreeable than what it was at stock.

I haven't noticed any fuel economy increases yet though, probably because I can't keep my foot away from the floor!

Any questions feel free to ask.

Ben
