DRYING OUT WET CARPETS

WIth so many wet carpets, without paying a fortune to the stealer for removing carpets and drying, is there a way of drying insitu. Maybe a dehumidifier.

Has anyone used one or indeed a 2kw blow heater.

I was going to buy a 10 litre dehumidifier, but at about £100 would prefer only to buy if sure it will work in a car cabin.

Concerned that it might just draw moisture from outside through the air vents.

ANY help appreciated

I have used a small blower heater in the past. Oh and also a hair dryer which doesnt do anything. The heat gun worked quite well but can singe the material if not careful! With the heat gun you get lots of steam so you know its working.

To dry them properly you will really need the carpets lifted, even just a bit or it will take ages no matter what method you try.

You can buy products for sucking up spills. They come in a nylon bag and are filled with a material not unlike the stuff you get in nappies. This is industrial strength though and works amazingly. Failing that get the dehumidifier, it should work fine inside the car. I have one at home and you'll be amazed how much moisture it takes up. Just close the vents and let it get on with it. As for the blow heater I'm not sure what would happen to the moisture it moves, woouldn't it just be left in the car as condensation. Expensive way of doinhg it too. Let us know how you get on. 169144-ok.gif

Why not remove the carpets your self, is it that hard to do? The front seat wont be too difficult to remove. Leave the carpets out and put the seats, trim, etc back in.

Then you can keep am eye on things for any more water ingress! and thoroughly dry the carpets prior to fitting them.

when i used the blow heater i left the window open a bit so that the moisture could escape. using the heat gun i was obvisouly there at the time so the door was wide open.
