Woppum
Well I cant find any links for it but there is a 2 page spread in the new Autocar. I think this will be a cracking car. At 22k though it is very dear for a mini and with only 2 seats I can see it being a depreciator, but it must be a cracking ride.
Smudge
Would be even better if they manage to make it rear wheel drive.

Smudge
That just looks like a mini with CSL alloys, it also looks like it's got rear seats, and from what Wopps has posted, the Mini CSL won't?? This monster is news to me, so I'm far from being 100% up on it's specs etc etc. Looks good there though. Edit: News Linky. And another pic:

Smudge
And here's the article your talking about Wopps. From the AutoExpress site: [ QUOTE ] There's one more trick up the sleeve of bosses at MINI before the current model is replaced - and here it is. Hot on the heels of production details about the Speedster - revealed exclusively in last week's magazine - this is a first look at a stripped-out 'CSL' variant. It's the fastest-ever Cooper S version, and has standard bucket seats, while there are no rear chairs at all. The car is due for launch before the all-new MINI appears next summer. Top brass at the BMW-owned firm are playing their cards close to their chest, but Auto Express has learned that under the carbon fibre bonnet is the 170bhp supercharged Cooper S engine - although it's tuned to deliver 232bhp. Sources tell us the car will get a limited slip differential to boost trac-tion, giving 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. It's even rumoured to wear the CSL badge previously reserved for the hottest BMWs. [/ QUOTE ]

Smudge
Hmmmm, not so sure about that rear wing. Image linky. I'm sure I've read somewhere that this car is something for the US market. Styling clues like the reflector on the front wheel arch, and the additional body kit makes me think this ain't the CSL car - if it really is going to exist. The whole point of CSL is to make it lightweight, not heavier.

Theres an English article about that very same Mini, and its the official Lightweight version of the Works Cooper S. Its has 218bhp, 40kgs lighter, and will cost £22k and only 400 wll make it to the UK. This article is the follow up to the Mini CSl article of late September. Mini Link The 3 articles are in chronological order and the latest one seems to refer to the earlier ones as speculation.

[/ QUOTE ] Er, Six, you might want to read those links again: [ QUOTE ] Tired of how certain print magazines pick up dusty old stories and rumours that have been going round the web for weeks, give them a quick polish and wheel them out as “exclusives”? Then you’re going to love this tale of how Auto Express was suckered into printing a fake story on the upcoming Mini CSL. Mini fan sites MotoringFile and Mini2, in particular, have been taking it on the nose from various magazine’s pinch-buff-and-reprint tactics. And now Mini2 has struck back. Editor Tony Thomas buffed up a Photshopped image, pulled some figures out of thin air and sent whole lot over to Auto Express suggesting it was scoop material on the rumoured Mini CSL. And guess what? They printed the lot: [/ QUOTE ] From here.
R32North
Maybe I mis-read it then..... but I took it as the CSL was not coming along and this lightweight version was the car that everyone was banding about over the past few weeks. v15ben
Dunno, I guess you wouldn't have to spec too much else onto a CSL version so compared to some of the "normal" Cooper and Cooper S versions around that cost a lot more than 22k, it isn't too bad! A lot for a MINI per se though
