Frodo
Well I was looking at getting a A4 3.0 TDi Quattro, but can't justify the monthly cost. So I want an all-wheel drive diesel car with 5 doors. So as far as I can see that leaves me an A3 sportback or Golf 4-Motion. Just looking at the figures what justifies the additional expense of a sportback over a Golf? Thanks for your help Paul

tinka
probably the badge, and residuals, and maybe build quality, although im not no sure any more about the later, all the underpinings are the same?.
cdb2
The interior of the Sportback is light years ahead of the Golf in terms of look and feel.
gizze
I would agree with that, my mate has the GTdi and the interior is really lacking.
tinka
i would agree, but im a bit disgruntled at the moment as there are some rattles appearing in mine already,no car will ever be rattle free, but after 8 months?.
kam
I looked at both when I bought my A3. The S-line had just been launched and when I compared the prices with the full spec there was not the diffrence that first appears in the price list, and to justify that was all the other stuff like the interior, less A3`s around than golfs, better looking ( esp the S-Line). First decide on the spec and then compare.
Frodo
Thanks for the advice. The better half prefers the Sportback so I guess it is a done deal
yiman
I have just taken delivery of a non-quattro A3 2.0 Tdi Sport. I looked at both but did not even bother to test drive the Golf after seeing the bland, plasticky interior. IMHO the Audi looks much classier from the outside too. Frodo
Going to look at both tomorrow. But the A3 does look very good especially with S-Line treatment. Even the boot has a good amoount of space.
clowesy
Hmmm I've just had the same debate but went for the Golf GtTDi 4 motion - I saved nearlly £3000 on the list price with some arm twisting. I'm not sure that I could have done that with the Audi, then it would have brought it down to the list price of an A3 especially in S line ( i wanted that version) but cost was a major factor. I am moving from an old model A3 so will probably notice the interior differences - I think both myself and the bank manager can probably live with it for the time being. A couple of years later then it might be the A3 Just some thoughts Cheers Clowesy
_Tone_
I would go for the A3, bit more pricier but omho its a better car, having both at my disposal helps me qualify although we dont have the 4wd versions. A3 is so good to drive and the golf is full of faults that the local stealer can't fix cos they are tossers. Tone
Frodo
Yes went for the A3 in the end
Zman
tonetrainer, I'd appreciate knowing if you find the Sportback more practical than the Golf for loading lugging. On paper the A3 appears to have only 20 litres more space butit looks a much bigger car in real life. Cheers, ZMan
_Tone_
Hi Mate Unfortunately We only have a 3 door A3 Sport not a sportback. In my opinion the sport back does look longer but I cannot offer any further help. Sorry. Cheers Tone
