Smudge
I removed my head unit last week, just to take a look at the back & the connections prior to my i-pod install (which I've still not got round to doing ). Ever since, MW has loads of interferance, if I brake - noise, indicate - noise - and the general signal sounds cack. I've removed the unit again to ensure all is still connected ok (which it appears to be), so does anyone know whats gone wrong?? Cheers Al. Snail
MW? isn't that from the ark, along with 8track tapes, and the gramophone?
Smudge
Yup. Radio 5 of joy rather than that jumped up fat twat Chris Moyles. In the morning that is anyway. So, anyone know what's happened?
PetrolDave
Sounds like the aerial leads need taking out and pushing FULLY home.
Smudge
Could well be that, iirc it's on, but not in, if you know what I mean. I just thought it was a crap connector. Will give it a go. Cheers Al.
Smudge
Update. OK, pulled the HU out, checked the aeriel & pushed it in a liitle more securely whilst the radio was on. Seemed much better. Slide the HU back into the slot. Then off it goes. MW vanished, just noise. Slide the HU back out, check connector, still in place. Grrrrrrreat. PetrolDave
If the connector is still tight, then it could be a grounding problem. We're talking low level high frequency signals here so it not just about DC grounding. Have any of the springy metal "tabs" that press against the frame that the radio slides into got bent back or broken? That could cause the problem you're seeing. Alternatively it could be that there's a break in the aerial cable - so when it's under tension with the HU out it's OK but when you bend it and put it under compression with the HU in the aerial connection gets lost. Try wiggling the cable with the HU out. Sorry they're two very different suggestions - but problems with RF are like that!
