'99 Passat 110 TDI Fuel Warning Light

Hi all, this is my first post on here, so here goes.

My fuel warning light has come one depsite the fact the fact that there is plenty of fuel in the tank.

Does anybody have an idea what this problem could be?

Could it be the Fuel filter full of water / needs changing or what?

Has the gauge dropped to the point where the light would come on aswell, or is it reading normally?

It's reading normally and not approaching the point where the light would usually come on, hopefully I am not that much of a numpty

Nothing seems out of place aside from the fact that the fuel light comes on when I fire the car up (after say 1/2 a second) and then stays on.

Not sure, there. There shouldn't be any reason why the lights coming on that I know of, so it could be an electrical glitch with the dash display. Draining the fuel filter is always a good idea. As it's a 110, it'll be fairly old so when was the filter last changed and by who?

It sounds very much like the switch which reads fuel presence is broken. They are normally a thermistor type switch which when sat in fuel is cold thinking fuel is present. It may even be part of the gauge sender unit which sits in the top of the tank. The haynes is not very clear about it. Check with your local stealer.
