Sparky
What is the best technology now? Comparing the latest gen Plasmas against the LCD's. I've often thought plasmas have more depth/colour - but they are also "older" technology than LCD, suffer from burn in and are heavier on juice to run them. But... I don't want an LCD if they are not as good. Any advice?
Durrsaku
Petrol V diesel? I would go for LCD to be honest. Plasma are good especially for big screens but LCD is caching up and is much better for smaller screens.
Sparky
It will be 32" as a minimum. Most likely 42" So best to go for a Plasma then?
MOSE
for a 32" I would consider the Plasma, anything bigger than this, then DLP all the way
Sparky
Rear projection, or normal projector? My room layout won't allow a normal projector.
MOSE
Rear Projection set definately. Stand alone projectors are very good as well, but the TVs give best results. I've never had any grief with my Sagem 50" DLP, apart from needing a software upgrade.
Sparky
Do they not suffer from viewing angles though? The ones I used to look at seemed quite grainy too
MOSE
Not at all, in fact my largest sofa is very close to the set and all three ppl who sit on it can view the TV without any problems at all. No problem with grain, but having said that, it is entirely dependent on the partnering equipment, leads and of course the source of the picture. Some DVDs are shyte quality anyways. sidicks
Less than 42" then go LCD, otherwise go Plasma, without question (screen burn is no longer an issue, if you follow the running in instructions and choose a good screen). Assuming you go plasma, you then need to choose between panel or TV - TV is the easier option, but properly set up, a plasma panel will give you the best picture (although you'll obviously need a free viewbox or sky as well. try www.avforums.co.uk for all your questions - very friendly bunch, and excellent advice !! Roy32
You will be suprised how versitile modern projectors are, DLP or LCD. Most models now have lens shift so you can position them offset to the screen without loosing quality. I personly have gone this route, projector for films and gamming and a cheep 28" tv for everyday veiwing..You can also run the pc through it for slide shows or video. Fed by a good quality dvd player and the picture is gob smacking. watching films on a 2.2 meter screen is the only way.
MOSE
Roy, remind me next time I'm over to check out that 2m picture. I miss the projector but running costs for the old RGB projector were a complete joke, it needed bulbs every other bloody week.

rjgreen4
Was thinking the same and went for one of these, thought if its good enough for microsoft in the 40" version to show off the x-box 360 then for the price it's pretty good with HDTV, inbuilt freeview. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/pr...mp;make=Samsung Wall mounted it and the picture quality is quite good, will be better if i get some decent scarts. I would get an LCD if I was you.

cheechy
Sparky I think it all depends on your budget really. Ultimately plasma will give the best results but you should be looking at something like the Pioneer 436XDE as a television or possibly a Panasonic PHD8 (HD) or PWD8 (SD) panel. The panel gives more versatility but relies on you already having sources available as nothing is built in (ie no tuner). For my money I'm going for plasma in the next couple of weeks. Still not completely decided upon which plasma yet (I keep changing my mind and its getting on nerves). At this moment in time its looking for like a Panasonic 42PHD8.... For me LCD just isnt there yet - indeed I doubt it ever will with SED technology on the horizon.
MOSE
Sparky, Get yaself one of these and save yaself a nice wad of cash!! Plasma sets are certainly much better than they used to be and I am yet to be convinced over LCD. For me DLP wins hands down every time. But remember to look at a DLP set and not a traditional rear projection set. There is a huge difference.
F90X
You need a Cathode Ray Tube. It has yet to be beaten.

Thorburn
Can wholely recommend Unicol, had some custom made plasma stands from them along with some other bits and pieces and the design and build quality is brilliant.
gizze
You can't beat a plasma, yet! The others are catching up but plasma is very good, if you get the right one, only 3 I could live with, the Panny commercial screens (what I use) Fuji 40 series 50" and the Pioneer 6 series xde. Forget the rest, the processing is terrible. Full sizeimage.
mmj
I don't reckon you've got a plasma, I reckon that's a mirror with the reflection of your good lady having a glass of Chardonay watching a 14" portable in the corner! Very pretty lady she is too!

I have been recommended to basically just get a Fujitsu plasma display with a digital set top box - and run it through the stereo...
