Thanks Mixit! I only caught the last few minutes but there has been other TV coverage here in the South West on the same subject plus the Daily Mail did a report recently. What really gets me is the fact that any prosecutor in speed camera cases is reluctant in the extreme to materially support, i.e. provide physical evidence, of their claim that you were allegedly exceeding a legal speed limit. You are guilty and not allowed to fairly challenge the evidence against you in a court of law. Furthermore you are threatened with a more severe penalty if you challenge the claim against you! What kind of justice is that?!

Coverage of the many injustices and wrongfull prosecutions regarding bad signage and wrongly painted road markings.

Also info on potential errors with police hand held speed guns. Calibration issues etc. stories of groups being let off and having fines refunded etc.

My reason for such happiness and satisfaction is the fact that now lots more people will take their cases to court instaead of just throwing their hands in the air and paying up regardless. I have read a great deal about road markings and wrongly palced signs at speed detection sites and it's mind boggling how many are inacurate. Incidentaly, check out Linky thing

Good point Robin, but I still maintain that the more people that contest the Fascist regime, the more chance there is of the system collapsing under the weight of all the red tape. It's a dream I know, but something has to be done, if only to restore public respect for the force.

Sorry Si....My words seem to have confused you. To put it more simply I'm saying that in a case where you truly are innocent and are summoned because of a faulty speed gun (the subject of the TV program and other newspaper reports), you are threatened with a more severe penalty if you contest the case and furthermore you are refused inspection of the material evidence (photos etc) used against you. This contravenes all principles of fair justice.

Any less confused?

....I only saw the last few minutes of this particular program but it seemed to be about the controversy surrounding the accuracy of certain speed detector guns. There have been cases of false readings but the authorities are refusing to acknowledge this as even a possibility and are even warning (in effect threatening) more severe penalties for those contesting their case. Additionally, the authorities are refusing to allow inspection of the evidence on which their prosecution is based.

I'm sure Mixit will correct any of this detail.

Aye, there was / is a case of a Gentleman who has developed a device that can measure the time between the two camera flashes to a very high degree of accuracy, and its been proven by top scientists, etc.

He used it to measure the time of camera flashes in his loacl area and over 80% were out by some margin.

I believe, the time should be 500ms, but some were as high as 675ms, which equates to 5-7mph out. So, although you need to be speeding to trigger the flashes, the point being that you could be done for a higher speed than you were actually doing.

He tried to take it to the courts but wasn't allowed a hearing. Took it to the Euro court and refused a hearing and it not allowed to contact Gatso.

In effect he is being scilenced!

Not sure ts the same thing, but this is one case I've been reading about!
