damianmkv
apparently the Passat 170 bhp TDi is Week 16 build so I guess the Golf is later..
clowesy
OH I have just ordered a GT Tdi 4 Motion. Should I have waited? The delaership bod seemed to think that the new GT would not come with 4 motion? Do i need to cancel? Err maybe that's why I got about £3000 off it. Sparticus
Great choice and a bargain at £3k off. Heres a pic of mine. No mention of 4motion being available on the 170bhp model or not on any of the web sites I have read. 140bhp model is plenty quick enough and it seems you can tune it to around 180 bhp for around £500. New GT has a GTi type grille and GT on steering wheel, according to some web sites comes with BBS aloys as well. Apart from that is the same. That should halt the discounts that you can get on this particluar model. The 1.4 supercharger will probably be the most popular and if thats the way technolgy is going could be the end of diesel. Wobby
Is fuel economy that good on the new 1.4? Can you get the same longevity from the petrol that you can get from a diesel?
Sparticus
1.4 Supercharged will hit 60 in 8 secs and do 40+ mpg. Don't know about longvity or costs though. http://www.germancarfans.com/photos.cfm/photoid/3050829.001/volkswagen/1.html It will be a mini GTi !!! [/ QUOTE ] I've had 180K+ miles out of a 1.8T and a 1.9TDI PD, so I don't think longevity is an issue, in fact I think it is more of a myth. As long as you look after the engine properly, you won't have a problem with either petrol or diesel.

Cheers Clowesy [/ QUOTE ] That depends on why you bought the car! For the 140 PS diesel engine or the 4WD? Or both? The GT will not come with 4WD. You could always get your 140 4Motion remapped to 170 bhp if this is something you're concerned about. It would be the first thing I would do if I had one. I don't think I will have another car without 4WD and the TDI 140 makes a lot of sense. HTH

But i just got a blank look when i asked about the 170TDI in 4 motion spec so don't think its coming in a 4WD option £3K off is a big chunk off Well done im told some great deals on this model due to low sales. clowesy
Hello, I ordered the car for both reasons, TDi and 4WD Thought it was a sensible choice - just wish they did DSG and its got the lot. The 140 I drove did seem fast - they didn't try to sell me the 4motion demo! However, I went back for a 2hr test drive a week later and it had been sold! The garage stated that they would not be getting another due to low sales figures. Perhaps this will go in my favour at trade in time. Sparticus
If there is no more Golf 4motion, I presume existing owners will see there residuals hold strong ?? Any idea how many are out there in the UK ?
SJC1975
Saw my local dealer today about a 140 GT Tdi Asked about the 170bhp version - he had no idea about this. Asked about a discount and offered £1500 off (£17,000 instead of £18,500). Not convinced at the moment. May have a look at the A3 depends what the wife wants! belld10
Was thinking of getting the TDI 4motion. Sounds like a great price is this typical of discounts on this model? Can`t decide to wait for the 170 bhp or not.
Mook
Get the 140 4Motion and get it remapped by someone like www.amdtechnik.com up to 170 bhp and get the best of both worlds...
