allen
looking at changing back to bmw, loved my e46 328i, looking at buying 1 or 2 years old would love a m3 for looks and performance but is the extra 10k worth it over a 330i sport, comments invited
NewNiceMrMe
Huggggggggggggeee difference. Different cars completely. The M3 would win the day every time in my book.
patently
Two completely different cars. I speak having driven an M3 on a fairly long test drive (but no more than that ) and as the owner of an 04 330Ci Sport. The 330 is a good fast daily driver. Makes good progress and handles very well. I'd recommend it heartily. The M3 is a performance car, and is very good at being that . In answer to your question, yes the difference in price is well worth it. But ... would it be your only car? I'd think twice about having an M3 as my daily car, to use in snow & ice, to use when I'm not well or just plain knackered. Comfort is not the M3's forte. The car I borrowed was the daily driver for the local dealership's new car sales boss, who I knew quite well. He absolutely loved it, but did admit that going home on a Friday after a tough week was a little tiring. But hey, who am I to talk? The 330 is in the bodyshop so a 911 is my daily driver at the moment!

allen
yes it will be the family car (1 child) (i am a builder so the van is used for work), can the m3 be any more harder ride than the s line?
patently
[ QUOTE ] yes it will be the family car (1 child) [/ QUOTE ] I have to say I'm getting tired of putting 2 kids into the back of the 330Ci .... the 5 series beckons...
NewNiceMrMe
I don't agree with those that say the M3 isn't a comfortable ride. Before the M3 Cab I had an M3 Coupe (04) and it was a mode of superb transport - in comfort. It was only when we got the Cab that I realised what a hard ride really was. Mine had 19"'s on and we had two kids to transport around allen (albeit mostly in the wifes car at the time) and the M3 handled the chores perfectly when it needed to. When went up to Edinburgh as a family in, suitcases and all, with no problems whatsoever, be they comfort or space ones.
allen
think i have to drive both, would like a cab but rear seats/legroom is too small, bit worried about people getting in the back of a coupe, 4 door m3 ideal why did they stop making it? Woppum
The M3 is very comfortable and has a very supple ride, something more similar to an AMG really, Audis and VW's seem to have a harder ride...

[/ QUOTE ] Allen, DO NOT buy an M3 Cab. Whatever you do, don't. They're far too much of a compromise on the Coupe and having owned both I can honestly say the Coupe is by far the better of the two cars. Yes the Cab is nice on a hot summers day, but when it starts rattling every second of every journey you'll soon wish you hadn't. It's handling is far inferior to the Coupe too. It's just not rigid enough and compromises the superb ability of the M3 in Coupe form.

allen
yea she said especially the yellow cab, but i would love it top down etc, few weeks ago bmw sold a ruby red cab, smg sat nav and red and black seats/steering wheel lovley, i like something a bit out of the norm, my old 328i was silver with red leather, would never buy a car with 'normal' black leather always seems to be a bad selling point though 'love the car mate not too sure on the interior'! kuks
I think it depends what you want from your car - make no mistake, as the others have said, there is a huge differnce between the two. Going from the 328 to a 330 you will notice the power difference - the 330 pulls alot more strongly through the range and to me sounds alot gruntier But jumping from a 328 to a M3, well..... Performance wise it will blow your socks off, if you are used to a 328. It may not pull as strongly lower down the rev range but above 4000 rpm it will go like a rocket all the way up to about 8000 rpm The noise is awesome, totally diffent to a 330 and then of course there are the looks.... IMO if you are after the image, style and cachet of an M3 (not to mention the performance and wow factor) then 10K in some ways can be considered a bargin - I see it as going from something that is rapid to something in the supercar league! On the downside running costs are significantly more for an M3 - but IMO thats it. Comfort wise I think there is not much in it - I agree with the others it has a relatively supple ride and is very practical. Anyway hope that helps - lets us know what you decide
allen
thanks for that not too worried about running costs as long as the performance equates (word of the day), think my s line does not equate, too much fuel, i would say same as or if not worse than
MOSE
There is a massive difference between the 330 and the M3. I had a few 330s as courtesy cars when my M3 was in with BMW. They are two completely different cars. I would opt for the coupe, being a little biased, as I wouldnt wish on my own worst enemy the same problems I had with my M3 Cab. Not worth the hassle. The M3 in cab form is looking a little dated now, but the more I look at the Coupe, it is still a very good looking car. Plenty about for sensible money as well.
