IR8Matt
Hi all, New to this and I'm looking for some advice... Posted it in the GTi forum but was told you are the guys to ask when it comes to removing body kit! Recently the missus chipped the side skirts of my GTi in a multi-story car park and I'm trying to do a respray job. Given the weather I was hoping to remove them and do them inside but I came to remove them yesterday and apart from finding the sole screw in the front wheel arch I can't seem to figure out how they are attached. Given that preparation and patience is the key to a good finish I wanted to try and do all the work off the car out of the horrible weather and kneeling all the time Can anyone tell me how I can remove the side skirts without damage to the rest of the car or to the skirts themselves? Do they just clip in and require just a bit of gentle persuasion? If I can't remove them it looks like I'll be waiting until the summer to respray on the car. Thanks Matt
RedRobin
I'm not stalking you Matt but you haven't told the guys and gals here that your GTi is a Mk4 and so might have some things in common with the Mk4 R32 re your missus' side skirts!! IR8Matt
Yep, good point. Sorry all, we're talking about a 2000 X reg Mk4 GTi with full factory fitted bodykit in Canyon Red.
Dan32
I know that the rear roof spoiler is held on with a double sided tape (obviously a strong type). Its possible the side skirts are the same. This requires gently heating up and carefully prising the component off. Have you been on the uk-mkivs.net forums? They seem to do a lot of bodywork over there and may offer some help.
