IzzaB
Hi Guys Newbie here with a question. I've been the happy owner of an A3 1.8TQS (2001 facelift) for 18 months and think it is time to re map. I've been told that the ECU will have to be removed and just want to check if that's right? I thought it could be done via serial port, but am a bit of a techno duffer! Any advice/tips would be welcome. Cheers!
BenjaminTDI
I think that your car can be flashed through the serial port, but I could be wrong. They had to take my ECU out to do mine, I was a bit worried, but everything was fine.
shao_khan
Hi welcome to tyresmoke. Not all cars have ot have the ecu removed, some can be done through the odbc port on the car, i think this includes AMD and Superchips. Check out www.amdtechnik.com (specifically this page ) or www.superchips.co.uk (and this one )and give them a call, they can tell you what this kind of mapping is available for. dickys3
Don't worry Izza, your car can be remapped via the obd port. Check out AmD, APR, Revo, MTM, Jabba etc..
3472386
I heard that besides removing the vacuum tube from the back of the exhaust, there can be an electrical modification to cut the vacuum pump off. This help to get a louder exhaust sound without having to get under the car. Any help out there. R32 thanks you.
Doug_MRC
You can get have the car flashed through the OBD port - or if you want a custom remap, your ECU will get replaced with an emulator to get the best from your car and then the file created from that will get flashed to your ECU. I would make sure the car gets tested before a flash/remap. you should be up around 215bhp to 230bhp depending on the spec of the car, with 250+ft-lb

The 1.8T VAG cars are equipped with 2 different ECU's. One can be be communicated with via OBD, some need to be tuned off the car. Perfectly fine, similar process but bypassng the OBD connector Regards Will
wcs_80
.........forgot to mention, some 1.8T up to 2002 require a direct chip change, not a re-map
