mixit
Rouse This has been discussed before. I have a similar noise, usually when I pull to a stop and turn left, before reversing. It's most prominent when turning the wheel at standstill. I remember the thread being pretty long and several others having similar symptoms, maybe even one having a new steering rack. Try doing a search.
allanon_1980
ya its a known problem on 2005 gtis. Remedy is ti fit a new steering rack, but from what I hear all the stealer does is fit a standard mk5 rack so Im leaving mine go unless it gets a lot worse. RedRobin
By all accounts to date, it's not necessarily a problem which needs fixing. I think we all need to see how it is in a few months or a year's time but within the warranty period. If the GTI rack and standard Mk5 rack are different then the dealer is well out of order replacing with a standard rack isn't he?
