sween
Has anyone had any probs with the radio/cd/sat nav head unit reception? Mine is intermittent, I suspect the ariel and every time I get near the stealers to get them to check it, it starts working again and they won't look twice at it until it isn't working. This is driving me mad as it decides not to work when I've got a long journey to do. Help me, before I hammer it to death!!!!!!!!!
PetrolDave
What unit do you have (RNS-D or RNS-E), and what's the model and year of your car?

Daz
Here you are. These are the 2 different Nav systems.

PetrolDave
Poor reception normally means there's a problem with the diversity antenna system. A4's have multiple aerials integrated into the glass on both saloon and avant (which do you have?), these feed into an aerial amplifier and then there's 2 connections to the RNS-D. If you have the TV option there are 2 aerial amplifiers with 2 signals to the RNS-D and 4 to the TV tuner. You should also have a roof mounted "shark fin" which is the GPS antenna (and GSM antenna). Most commonly one of the antenna connectors isn't fully pushed home on the back of the RNS-D. Worst likely case is that the antenna amplifier has an intermittent connection either internally or on one of it's connectors - that's hidden behind the trim in the boot area. I'd try sliding the RNS-D out (you'll need a set of 4 removal tools) and checking the antenna connectors.
