has anyone noticed a slight sound (a that comes from under the gear stick when you are slowing and the gear is dropping from 3 to 2 to 1? it may be normal but to clarify it more it sounds like the gear is rattling ( a click metal sound) when your slowing and it shifts from 3rd to second and from 2nd to first gear. confused.gif

you have to open the windows and listen carefuly, when u are slowing down and braking, the gear will automatically start to drop shifts, u may feel a small tick under your seat when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear, but mainly it is when it shifts from 2nd to first gear,it sound like some metals move when the shift happens, it may be a normal sound from the gearbox, but it sounds like VW forgot to tighten something downthere. smirk.gif

I do get a sound when changing down, but not the one explained above. Sometimes (approx 30% of the time) when slowing and nearing standstill I hear (and sometimes feel on the brake pedal) a grating/clunking sound when DSG changes from 2nd to 1st. This is definately a 'cog on cog' sound and sensation, but is only detectable when slowing to idle very gently.

I have asked by stealer to look into it, but they said that they could not detect the problem when they drove it. It does take some familiarity to be able to detect it, but once tuned in, it becomes v. irritating.

Have any of you other DSG'ers experienced anything similar?

We couldn't get the turbocharger nuts undone without risking snapping them so I'm back with Ray West on Monday to get the whole day to sort it. It's unusual for these nuts to get so solid on a new car but the same happened recently on an Audi. I think I got zapped by a mobile laser on the way there frown.gif Not the best of days.

Road Angel is capable but lasers are tricky to detect....depends on a number of factors. I was simply cruising at about 80 in the early morning, sunny and dry, on dual carriageway in open countryside, no other traffic....spotted something on a bridge ahead....wasn't a car so I slowed a little but then saw it was a scooter! In front of the scooter with silver panniers was a guy fiddling with the front of a camera on a tripod. I was only doing 60 when I went under the bridge but have no idea how far away he clocked me if at all. There are camera signs but no fixed cameras in that area. Bummer if I get done....It's not as if I was doing 120, which incidentally would have been quite safe in the GTI as we all know in those road circumstances.

How long do tickets take to come through the letterbox? Is the legal limit 60 or 70 on non-motorway dual carriageway? I might have been okay speedwise....Only time will tell and what's done is done.

Edit: I don't see mu's post as sarcastic at all....Quite the contrary.

Red,

I would say it is unlikely you got caught at that speed. The limit is 70 on a dual carrigeway plus the percentage error they allow etc so assuming it was 80 you will be ok.

I thought I had been caught a few months back so I turned round and went and spoke with the copper as I was going to be away and wanted to know how long you get to respond to a ticket etc. He was brilliant, firstly he said he didnt think he had caught me as he didnt recognise the car. He showed me how all the kit works etc and it was an eye opener. Basically he had a video camera and this was mainly zoomed in on the oncoming traffic although he could move it wherever. He watches the screen and is looking for people on the phone, eating etc. He only operates the laser if he thinks someone is speeding. He asked me what speed I was doing and I said about 37 when I first saw him and he said that he wouldnt operate it at that speed, he was looking for people taking the piss basically and even if he had I would more than likely have been ok by the time he had of I would have been down to 36 which would be fine. In 2 hours he had operated the laser 3 times and on each occasion caught somebody. All the traffic was recorded the whole time he was there and if anyone is on the phone etc he records it on a log sheet with the VRN etc and the video is then reviewed and that person may be charged. The quality of the video is good, if they do catch you in this way there is no way of denying it, they have got you bang to rights.

It was really quite interesting and I was reassured that these vans may not always be there just to earn revenue. Before this I assumed that they checked the speed of each vehicle but this is not true. However, I guess this could depend on the individual copper or force involved. But it was good to know there are some good ones out there.

Incidentally I have a Snooper S4 which is also capable of detecting laser apparently. He said it is unlikely to do this though as the laser is such a fine beam and it is generally aimed at the grill area of the car. He also said that if it did detect it it means they have your speed anyway although they will take 3 readings.

I have never had a laser alert from any of the vans I have seen but this could have been because they were not checking my speed.

Many thanks rtec....and Welcome to TSN....I assume you have ordered/bought/considering a Mk5 GTI?

Being fairly new to such gear as Road Angel, I was expecting the red lights warning but didn't fully understand Blackspot's manual's text on lasers. I think they are covering themselves by saying that lasers don't always get picked up by the Angel.

Have you experienced a 'hit' from a laser via a Road Angel? Red flashing lights? Does Tiff say anything special like "They gottcha!!".
