A6 Heavy Problems

Hello All, This is my first post here. I have just just discovered you guys through my google search engine.

This is my Story:-

I bought an Audi A6 2.5 TDI SE 8 months ago. 3 months after purchase the onboard computer display started getting lines through it. The front suspension also started making hollow noise. Was advised that it need replacing. This cost £550. A month later the car started to smoke and was advised Turbo needed replacing. Audi quoted £1500 so i took it to my regular guy who charged £600. Either he did a bad job or the turbo failed again and all the engine oil leaked into the exhaust. Ended up going back to Audi and paying the £1500. Turbo changed but it was stil smoking. Drove it late at night several times and no difference. It seems to be also loosing oil. Audi again advised it will cost £1300 to replace exhaust and cat. Spoke with another independent garage who advised that it could be an engine problem and that i should just cut my losses and part exchange the car. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Please Help.

PS. I have the vehicle booked in for weekend to get it part exchange.

Every car no matter who manufactured it goes through an expensive period where everything appears to go wrong. You don't say how old your car is but to me it looks like you've been unlucky enough to hit this period. If it were me, I'd get my mechanic bloke to give it a good looking over and see if he can spot anything else that's about to fall off. Then, I'd get rid sharpis and get the bus for a while. Might be an idea to get someone with more knowledge to go car hunting with you next time too. No offence intended.

Good luck and welcome to TSN.

  • 4 weeks later...

I though that there was an oil seal on the 2.5TDI engine which commonly fails at higher mileages?

If that's dropping oil on to your exhaust no amount of money spent on new turbos, cats, etc. is going to solve the problem.

I'd find a decent Audi specialist (NOT stealer) and discuss the problem with them - they're much more likely to be familiar with the problem and its solution.

Thank you for your help. However, I have now sold the A6 and bought myself a VW Passat smirk.gif
