[Audi A3/S3] Valve in tailpipe.....

it opens and closes at different revs, under different conditions, vacuum to the flap is controlled by a solenoid valve in the engine bay iirc.

someone on the TT forum wrote out when theirs did and didnt open at the various revs/speeds and it got rather boring.

quite a few v6 tt'ers pull the pipe off and clamp it so crap doesnt get into it, and this leaves flap always open for a throaty roar.

then there is an electrical mod, involving chopping some wiring and fitting a switch, to make it switchable in the cabin.

might get a very slight gain. I think its all about noise.

tuning the exhaust note, i cant think of any reason my having it open permantly would have any diverse effect at all.

maybe a level of noise you get annoyed with on a long journey etc, but its totally reversable if you dont like it.
