NewNiceMrMe
Out of interest following a conversation I've been having on another forum today.. IF you were in the market for a BMW M5 or M6...which do you THINK you'd be most likely to choose? Take price difference into account too of course (£63k versus £80k) as if you were having to spend the money but that you could afford either. Attention Mod's - could you please leave this in General Cars rather than put it in the BMW forums where the response will be much more limited. Thanks. Here are a couple of reminder photo's... BMW M5 BMW M6
Ari
M5 is better value of course, but the M6 is just so much more special...

gizze
M6 everytime, although I have seen a few of them now and only one M5, so I guess they will end up being the more common of the two, even if they do stay at £80k. But then, when it looks that good what do you expect!
NewNiceMrMe
I agree, but would you risk the potential depreciation? The M5 is holding very firm on values, whereas they're struggling the shift M6's right now and there are strong rumours of price drops and mega depreciation. NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] Trying to decide Chris? [/ QUOTE ] Nope. Just having a chat with someone who is trying to decide and they were leaning heavily towards an M6 until they saw the rear-legroom (or lack of it). They're unsure on the M5 looks but the fact it is a full 4-door mega-saloon makes it both practically and financially the better buy, yet they love the shape of the M6. gizze
Really? I have seen 3 in Norwich in the last couple of weeks and only seen one M5, whilst having breakfast in Hamstead last month.
NewNiceMrMe
Apart from the one I drove, I've not seen an M6 on the roads but I've seen 10 or more M5's at least.
jimdiesel
M5 for me though I do prefere the look of the 6. Or can I say CLS55AMG until the new S6 comes along.
Thorburn
M6 If I got an M5 it would be an E39, the new one seems a little too clinical, the M6 sounds like its got some soul!
Paul
I personally think they have taken a dive since Bangle had his way. Ive never been a Beamer person, but I could have seen myself in the earlier incarnations, M3, M5, 7 series etc. They were imho desirable. I dont find this with the current range. NeilB
I'd go for the M5, as it looks far better then the M6 (Hard to beleive I know ) and it wouldnt loose as much money.
TP27
M5 for me. I am a fan of the 5-Series anyway!
Ari
Thing is, I'm not sure most people would really be choosing between the two. They're different types of car at different price bands. For example, i reckon most people who would be considering an M6 wouldn't be wondering whether to have an M5 instead, they'd be considering a Porsche 911 or a Mercedes SL 55 AMG. Likewise your M5 buyer is more likely to have a Merc E55 or maybe an Audi RS6 on his shopping list.
TP27
Yes, the M5 appeals to me 'cos it's a functional four seater with a big boot, just as a saloon should be. An M6 would always be up against a 911, DB9 etc, irrespective of budget. All these cars will have to wait though, I only got two numbers in the Lotto last night!! sayerbloke
I really don't know. Both are no doubt amazing cars to drive. Neither looks totally amazing or seriously ugly. I think it`d just come down to which suited your personal needs. Would you benefit from the extra doors the '5' has? If not, may as well get the '6', I guess. NeilB
I don't like the look of the 6 at all, in your sig Chris it looks ok. But in that picture at the top of the post it looks like a beached whale thats been on a diet of pukka pies. Also the front just doesnt seem to suit the car, no matter how many way I look at it. theduisbergkid
M6 for me. M5 is a nice Q Car though. You bored of your new toy already ? How about a poll like this - M6 M5 Noble
R32North
M6 on looks, style and many other factors, but I do like the fact the M5 is a big old 4 door saloon that goes like a Ferrari! Something says the M5 shouldn't do what it does, but it does! Still the M6 tho, its one gorgeous car.

bazza_g
Tricky one this. I've not driven the M6 so can't really say if its that much more special than the M5, well not nearly £20k more special. What I do know is the M5 is an incredible machine that has a degree of practicality combined with insane performance. It gets my vote
