aaabbb
Hello. I am torn between 3 Golfs that i can buy. There is the 130bhp PD, the 150bhp, and the 1.8 20v T. I dont know which one to get. Anyone own any of these and what average MPG do you get in each vehicle. I know the pro's and con's of the engines as i work on them all day but just wondered how much they cost in fuel and tax bills.
mulkbear
As one tech to another buy the 130bhp, my mate has the 150bhp and it does not feel that smooth as the 130bhp
pingpongpo
I've got a 130 and I get about 50mpg average.
_Tone_
We used to have an A4 1.9 130 BHP and that was an outstanding engine with very very good mpg, think the tank was a 70 litre my g/friend got 890 miles on one run! Averaged 66 mpg as well, although stuck in traffic doing 50-70mph but excellent economy! Better the the 2.0 TDi's that are around now in my opinion! kentzer
I've gone from a 130TDi Passat to a 130TDi Golf. The engine on both is (was) very smooth, and extremely responsive - it'll accelerate really strongly in 6th! I'm getting about 52mpg on the Golf (was about 48-50 on the Passat). Have had the golf up to 62mpg, but then I'm not particularly light footed, and most journeys round here seem to involve loads of traffic The performance is pretty good as well. I think the insurance groups go up quite a bit when you go to 150bhp. Cheers Ben
aaabbb
The insurance is about the same on all the cars. Ive seen a nic 150bhp pd golf. Its 40k on it 52reg 3dr for £9300. So i think i might go for that. I like that bit of extra power over the 130bhp golf.
SJC1975
The 1.8T will probably cost £1500 less and has less rattles! However, MPG will be 33-40mpg
Mook
150 bhp GT TDI, without any doubt. I've had all three, and this is by far the best of them. It will just about tag a 1.8T GTI from a standing start, but will out-perform it on mid range acceleration. And you'll get 50+ mpg
Hudster
but as SJC said, you're paying a lot more to start with
Mook
You will pay more for the diesel car, but is the choice of car about money, performance, consumption, something else...? You could save £1500 now, but what about resale value - TDIs hold value better. You will also spend around £450 a year less on fuel running either diesel if you're doing 10K miles a year. I chose the 150 GT TDI after the 1.8T GTI, because the 130 GT TDI was such a great all round car and the 150 had that bit more grunt. It's your call aaabbb
Rustynuts
Pay more for it, costs less to run, worth more when you sell it. Lose, win, win. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
