P_G
My pride and joy is coming up rapidly to its 1st Birthday and I'm thinking of treating it to a couple of mods since the 12 month warranty expires. The question is which first? I have found with the help of Ben (Shark_90) a decent person to remap and a good local exhaust manufacturer where I got my cat back system from who will install 2x 304 grade stainless steel hi flow sports cats and down pipes for £650 all in. However if I do remap first and then sports cats, will I lose optimum remap settings if I had the complete exhaust system done first. I'd rather put the remap off a bit and get it right if it does make a difference. By the way, who knew that a V8 S4 has four cats? Advice oh generous and knowledgeable peer group, please? Thank you. CraigR
The cats first would be my choice, you will probably see more gains with the exhaust/cats than any re-mapping, i can only tell you what i found when i looked at having my cab done, the remap was only good for 8 bhp !!! 4 Cats, primary and secondary have a read primary/secondary cats. P_G
I'm being quoted 26 bhp and 16 ft lbs. for the remap, but I understand about the increased 'breathing' by fitting high flow sports cats. Both will get done eventually, just wondered if there was anyone out there who had done the cat back, remap then sports cat route and vice versa. It is also about spending £250 on a remap now or whether waiting and spending £650 first is wiser?
Daz
Is that a proven 26 bhp and 16 ft lbs increase? Lots of people claim things but there's been very little proof to back some of these claims up. Cats would be the prefered choice - admittedly not a cheap one though. Scotty
If it was being remapped on a dyno then you may have a point. I thought you handed over the ECU to get it done. Have you seen any graphs yet? I'm interested in the results. You've seen my thoughts on chipping the S4 on the other thread I assume?

[/ QUOTE ] I find it very difficult to believe that a £250 re-map will produce 26bhp, i looked at amd/apr etc and downloading a mapping from a tuners in germany and uploading to the ecu gave a gain of 8bhp, the cost of that was just shy of £1k Edit-if you do gain 26bhp put me down for a remapping. P_G
The figures are right, had them confirmed yesterday by E-mail, the limiter is also raised. Same person Shark_90 used and he's had not problems with his remap so I imagine it's fairly accurate. I'm going for a r/r before and after I get it done so I can verify the figures anyway. It's still a damn site cheaper than taking it to Revo or AMD, least beacuse of the petrol it will save me going down south!
John_Doe
Graeme, IMHO I would go for the sports cats to compliment the cat back boxes you have already had fitted. I have made many enquiries into tweaking the engine and for the main part the claims appear to be a tad optimistic!! It all comes down to improving the engine breathing....you know the rest mate. I may just replace the standard front cats for Milltek Sports Cats on my car....or perhaps see what your man can do along those lines?? later dude Joint remapping still on???? P_G
That's why I'm trying to get the advice, can't realistically afford to do both when I have service, insurance renewal, engagement ring, Christmas and flat to sell / house to buy in the next 2 months (in that order of course). Still would like the remap, how quickly do you want it done djbs4? I'll PM you my exhaust man's details, he says he can put sopts cats onto a Milltek system as he custom builds his systems. Scotty
[ QUOTE ] the limiter is also raised. [/ QUOTE ] I assume this is the rev limited as there is no speed limiter on the S4! Isn't 7.2krpm enough? The RS4 has reportedly had engines letting go and I expect that to be related to the higher red line. I certainly wouldn't raise my red line. Scotty
Will, If it's a generic map (an assumption since you a programmer does it remotely) how do you cater for mods such as exhaust, cats etc? Is it down to the Bosch ECU toadjust accordingly to the additional air flow or do you have multiple mappings. Are the mappings theoretical (i.e. based on the standard card) or are they from cars that have actually been remapped and the results used as feedback input into the map? Scotty
Re 155 limiter You're familiar with the code and I've seen many posts by people who have stock S4's and they've been faster than that. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about it.

[/ QUOTE ] There are generic maps, but its fairly simple to allow for changed back pressures etc Trust me, I've read many original programmes, and can see where the restrictor is. No doubt the car can exceed this, but I wouldn't imagine it was a huge amount more. Nice looking car by the way!

Would need nearer £4K anyway as after the exhausts and re map I'm after some ECS disks and pads which is approx. £1500. Then have to sort the paint work on the boot after the fecker who tried to nick my spoiler scratched it. Spending all that I'll be lucky if I'll afford / buy another car again.
