20valver
I have got trouble with my '97 1.8 20 SE locking/unlocking via the remote keyfob. It will only lock when key fob is right up to the car. Keyfob has new batteries and so does the car. Tried the old reset routine lock, press for couple seconds, unlock with key ect but problem remains. Any Ideas?
mulkbear
Could by the remote it's self but there is a TSB (technical solutions bulletin) at work that say's V.A.G key remote's can be a affected by area's of high radio wave interferents or high electrical interferents. Does this fault occur all the time ?
20valver
Happens all the time and to all three of my keyfobs.
20valver
Just as a bit of added info, the car locks and unlocks best around the drivers door pilar. Does the alarm/central locking unit have an antena?
20valver
I posted this a few months back and thought I would revive it to see if anyone else has had this problem? I have seen all the posts for false alarms etc, but mine works fine except how close you need to be to get the car to lock/unlock.
drpellypo
My old Passat, in a particular car park in Morpeth, never unlocked with the fob. I always had to use the key. Does it happen everywhere on yours? Could be related to what Richie said.
20valver
Yep, happens everywhere. It has to be signal related. Luckily, the guy i'm on shift with has brought his VAG com in tonight. Methinks a quick dinner time diag session at midnight
20valver
Just in case anyone is interested. Vag com could not talk to the unit that runs the remote locking. Another mate of mine has a diags kit for all type of cars (can't remember the name but cost him about £3k) and that had the same result. Tonight we decided to take the unit out (what else do you do at work! ) and took out the control unit. All looked ok apart from the contacts needed a light clean and the pcb inside looked like it had at some point condesation on it. Resoldered the pcb where the reciever sits to make sure there were no dry joints gave the pcb a little clean with pcb cleaner. Put the unit back in, checked the wiring is ok and it has started locking at a further distance. Forgot my other key with a new battery in it (the one I have at work has died through testing the locking!) so will check the range when I get home in the morning.
