LeadFoot
Asked my dealer this very same question earlier on today. He said 100%, absolutely, definitely, certainly, unquestionably, positively, categorically, undeniably and without a shadow of a doubt that.........YES THERE WOULD BE A NEW S3! But whether you choose to believe that or not is entirely up to you!
Frodo
I have spoken to two different dealers in the last week or two and they said a definate yes, but no details
Wallachie
My local dealer called me again about 2 weeks ago, and confirmed to me once more that the new S3 will be available from November '06, and will be a 2.0TQ with 255bhp. He tells me that those details were issued to him by Audi HQ. He also claims that the MD of Isaac Agnew Audi was over at the Audi factory a few months ago, and claims to have seen the new S3. I doubt that very much though.........
LeadFoot
Looks like they're all singing from the same hymn sheet at least! Bit disappointed about the quoted 255bhp figure though!
purple_nurple
How will this affect the second hand values of the V6? Opinions?
doogal1972
Sort of get the feeling alot of people went for the 3.2 A3 as a stop gap till the new S3 came out so I'd imagine the values will fall quite steeply when the new S3 does finally apear. I'm a bit dissapointed with the 255ps too!
DHA
But why? 255 in a good chassis will make a great car. Its not all about big power these days despite what AMG and ///M might tell us. 255 will probably make 275-280 with a chip.
doogal1972
Why I'm dissapointed is because a remapped 8L S3 will be quicker. And a lot of people have them remapped. It's quite possible the new S3 will be heavier too as most successors tend to be. So how much quicker will it really be than a current S3 or a 3.2 A3? Sure, when the map comes out for the new S3 that will be quicker still but that's maybe a while away? Just my opinion
DHA
But does just BHP make the car quicker?
Wallachie
It's not all about outright speed IMO, having said that I still believe the new S3 (standard) will be quicker than the old S3 (standard), I'm sure Audi haven't designed their new S3 to be quicker than a remapped old one! If the new model handles as good, if not better than the new 2.0TQ then it will be a cracking car. As for the 3.2Q, I think it's a bit of a barge and shouldn't really be compared to the S3, old or new!
DHA
Exactly. A better handling car than the old S3 with a little more power will provide a package that is better overall than the standard S3 used to be. If manufacturers were trying to better the tuners attempts at their cars how fast would Porsche have to make things if they compared them to RUF?? doogal1972
I agree, not always does bhp make a car quicker. Top Gear proved that last night with the 911 whooping the M6 which had 160 more horses (although the jury would be out on a dry track as in the wet you power is only a useful as what you get to the floor). It's about a mix of power, chassis and balance. BUT, personally I feel dissapointed with 255bhp in the new S3, I'm not a motoring journalist, nor an expert, but as I mentioned earlier it's just my opinion! CarMad
Audi want to leave the power struggle and go for better handling / feeling cars. Lower weight, steering with feel and a good ride. No not many Audis have this at the moment but that is the aim. How would a rear drive biased Quattro with 255BHP, lower weight, agressive body work and a some carbon fibre in the interior sound, oh and some nice Recaros? It sounds good to me. I would prefer the car to have a great noise (V6 5cylinder etc.), but anyone that has driven the new 2.0 T FSI will tell you it sounds far better than the old 1.8 T by a mile added to the fact it has far more torque more of the time to play with, again things aren't so bad. Audi just might suprise us all and create a cracker like the new RS4.
d3fy
I agree with the sound, my A3 sounds superb!
