WRT driving in the snow, remember that 4WD will only be any good at getting you moving. It provides no benefit at all for stopping.

And LoTTie, for the TT, it's got Hladex and not Torsen 4WD. What this means is that it's essentially a FWD car until the sensors detect a degree of slip and transfer drive to the rear wheels.

Lastly, not sure about true quattro, but on the TT it's best to swith ESP off to get moving. Otherwise it will continually cut drive to the wheels and give you no power. Sometimes it's best to be able to spin the wheels to keep you going.

OK, this one is lastly (promise) remember that wide sports tyres act more like skis than thinner tyres that act like ice skates. You will slip and slide a lot more with fatter tyres than you would on the old bicycle-tyred cars of old.

Always ask yourself if your journey's necessary.

Not sure about this one. I used to have an A3 quattro (same Haldex system) and if you pulled away fast in snow the traction control didn't cut in (as I expected it to) because as the car was spinning up all four wheels together, it had no way of knowing they were spinning. With a 2wd car I guess it'd have compared wheel speed and figured the fronts were going faster than the backs and cut in the traction control.

Totally agree though, don't get blase about quattro in snow. It helps keep you going, but it doesn't help you stop! Also totally agree about the wide tyres. Bit like sledging! Fastest thing in light snow is a Citreon 2CV apparently cos it's skinny bicycle style tyres cut through the snow rather than skating across it. grin.gif
