MattR32
Still missing my old R32 a lot, especially when it's wet but although I'm interested in the mk5, I just can't manage to like the styling or the interior which I think looks cack compared to the mk4. Anyway, how fast are your 300bhp (ish) R32s? I'm talking usual figures here (1/4 miles, 0-60, 0-100, VMax). Always thought the near 1500kgs R32 could use a few more horses to shift that bulk. R32North
They must shift pretty well. Mine is about 255-260hp and I still think it shifts damn well for its bulk - especially when you get moving in 4th gear
Smudge
Well my current car was RR'd at 295bhp, but I've never look to get near V Max or measured a 0-60 time. You might get some 0-60's, but seeing as V max on the R32 is going to be twice the NSL, I doubt people will have either tried on these shores, or even if they have, would post it up. I did see 165 whilst on the continent in the last R though.

MattR32
Well 295bhp qualifies in my eyes! Not saying the R is slow at all - Just wondered what effect the extra horses have is performance terms. What kind of torque increase do you get as well? I got to a whisker under 150mph in France in mine but then a bend approached and I bottled it. Still a fair few revs left though. My current car, and Ashtray with a pretty powerful diesel (in diesel terms) is 200kg lighter than the R32 and despite it being an old man estate, I really have noticed the difference in certain situations. It's nowhere near as fast, but on a few S bends I know well, there's just a fraction mroe agility. I'd bite my own arm off for another R32 though. Smudge
[ QUOTE ] What kind of torque increase do you get as well? [/ QUOTE ] Torque was measured twice, once at 231lb/ft and the other at 276lb/ft (quite a difference eh!) but that averages out at a tad under 254lb/ft, against the standard figure of 236lb ft (iirc). Mook
0-60 figures for the following (both tests done when running Optimax): AmD Stage 2.5 (ST2 + sports cats) (278 bhp/257 lb/ft)- 5.8s AmD Stage 4 + CAI + High pressure fuel reg (312 bhp/281 lb/ft) - 5.2s We will find out on Helfinger's 368 bhp monster when we stick the GTech Pro meter on it, but I have always reckoned it should hit 60 in 4.5s or less. We'll have to wait and see...

Calm Chris
RA11 shows GPS recorded speed at 130, R32 speedo at 137-140. Same sort of thing at GPS 70, R32 speedo at 74-76. At GPS 99, R32 speedo shows 100. Which is the only really accurate reading that compares GPS with speedo. All tests were done for speed at 5 minutes plus, this prevents the GPS being inaccurate. fatcat
I had 301 and the AMD dyno plots to prove it.................................. Still, it gave those chipped S3's a good run for their money

dazmondo
Ive been having problems the past few months and my poor golf has taking a thrashing, PROPERLY ! Went on afew mad get away trips and was played with a couple of times by tossers in chaved up cars, the worst being a dickhead in an escort cosworth, slowing down letting me overtake then screeming past doing 100+, then easing right back in front of me, had enough of this behavior after 3-4 atemps so when i saw him comming up again i just flawed it, got upto 160-165 and stayed there for 10-15mins, nearly had 170 at one point, dickhead was eliminated, and carried on my journey

Mook
Get the handbags out boys - we're off on one now... I did 238 mph on the A31 last Tuesday in my R32. In the rain. In the dark. Smudge
Right, I can confirm that my 295bhp R32 will touch . . . . . . . . 163mph - yes - MPH. In reverse. And it was darker than when Mook did it, and I was drinking a bottle of chamagne & enjoying a party with some ladies (sat in the back with their seat belts on I hasten to add) and watching Layer Cake on my new PSP. With my sunglasses on. And of course, mines black, so no one will beat that.
