saab
Sorry lads - I'm sure this has been done to death but I'm after suggestions for good broadband providers based on recent experience. I've just managed to get out of my Tiscali broadband contract early after 2 weeks of no service and them being unable to sort it. Bascially I'm done with cheapos like Tiscali because quite frankly you clearly get what you pay for with these sort of things and I just cannot be doing with the hassle of hours stuck in bewildering queuing systems, dreadful customer services, incompetent tech support and erratic connections (which were all hallmarks of Tiscali incidentally in case anyone is insane enough to consider them ) - I'm happy to pay a decent amount for a good service, so has anyone got any recommendations of good providers please? Cheers Jamie
shark_90
Once again I can recommend Pipex very highly. Their service is always spot on, at breakneck speed. I have their 2mb service at £33.99 and it's never let me down in 18 months
DHA
Pipex here too, this is the second house where I have had it and it has not missed a beat. Shame its a poor line and I can only have 512K

shark_90
Agreed on price. But as with anything, you get what you pay for. One of the geeks at work did a lot of research into providers and he chose Pipex as they are near as dammit straight out into the core. I told him for real world application that didn't really matter, but when he showed me my traceroutes bouncing around Germany I soon changed over! Snail
Im with BT. Usually the problems involve ISPs waiting for BT to do things anyway, so i subscribe to the organ grinder, rather than his monkey.
Daz
I agree with Snail. Been with BT for 5 years - not had too much to complain about - has always been totally reliable.
Regulator
I'm with BT at home aswell, and its excellent ... no probs at all! Except now, but thats because my line is messed up and so cnt access the internet. ... I'm currently looking for an ISP which will provide internet to my flat. ... Onl;y catch is I want a max 9 month contract because I'm a student and won't be needing it for the whole 12 months. I looked at NTl but last time I was with them I had a bad experience and this time they can't service my flat for some reason, so I'm thinking of Bulldog as I am thinking of sharing the connection with about 8 other students ... Anyone have any comments on Bulldog?
saab
[ QUOTE ] Anyone have any comments on Bulldog? [/ QUOTE ] From what I can establish Bulldog are as bad as Tiscali. There are 22 pages of complaints and negative feedback on ADSLguide here personally I would steer well clear.
Tomk
well ive just signed up with bulldog, they seem to have spent a lot of money and time on getting things right , its all in the process of going though , enough peopel on here seemed to think they were ok also another friend is on them , i want to make sure i get un-metered access as i download aprox 150gig a month so just hope they are ok ! NunchukHamster
Broadband? I dream of having Broadband! The genius engineering squad at BT connected the whole of Whiteley village to the exchange with a fibre cable which can't take broadband. Only about 1,000 homes, all built within last 5 years, at the other end of the cable. And NTL are only in a couple of the streets.

Rustynuts
2Mb connection on E7even, at the moment is costing me about £12 per month. I had one outage in the last year for a day when BT cocked things up somewhere, and they gave me a months extension to my contract as compensation. Oh, and it's unmetered, uncapped, 50Mb webspace, free web hosting, unlimited Email addresses, and I get paid for referring you. They don't do illegal filesharing, though. saab
Thanks for the advice lads - decided to go for BT in the end - I'm sick of when problems arise the ISP blaming BT and then BT blaming the ISP and going round in circles and getting nowhere. Fingers crossed and I'll soon have broadband at home again.

gizze
I had BT at my last place and I have Zen and Pipex here, zen in the shop and pipex in my flat. I always though BT was quick till I got Zen, pages are instant and I get 220k downloads all the time, and their customer service is a dream, I have never had downtime with them and just checked and not even lost a connection in over 3 months. Pipex has been good too, I swapped to them from BT before I moved, but I do have some down time and in the evening it can occasionally slow down a bit. FTP transfers with pipex usually top out around 180-190k when I know I am getting another 30k sec off the same ftp on the other line. In fact I am so pleased with Zen that I have cancelled my Pipex account and just brought another wireless access point and I am now using my work dsl in the flat too, have been for a few weeks now and it is definitely better. I think I pay £34.99 for a 2mb line with Zen, but not sure if that includes vat or not?

DHA
What is regular use? I just hit my 1gb limit in 2 weeks and pipex added 3gb for an extra £2.90 (I have to use pipex start as its a crap line)
