Robg1232000
Hi Been told by main dealer today that my 96,000 mile 02-plate 1.9 TDi 130 SE needs a new turbo after I reported a slight mechanical grinding noise under acceleration. Anyone else had a similar problem? Any advise on how to solve the problem as cheaply as possible? Many thanks.
pritesh
might i ask: did they take the turbo out to tell you this? you could see if a local breakers has one, failing that you could opt for a recon one? the ineternet is the best place to start really! Cant really talk of experience but the turbo life would depend on a few factors: 1 - how hard you drive the car? 2 - motorway miles? or town ? 3 - Do you let the Turbo cool (spin down) after using the car every time, this is ESSENTIAL on cars with turbos) 4 - are u running increased boost? chip etc? meriafel
We have TDi's of 180k, 125K, 97k and 77k with no turbo failures. As said previously you must let them idle after every journey. We have changed the oil and filter every 5k on all these engines while in our ownership using only VW oils and filters. Three have tow bars and have pulled boats, a caravan and trailer and two of these have been fitted with chips. Follow the advices given and we believe they pretty well 'bombproof'.
