Do people stil rate the new ones, or are they a bit 'old hat' these days??

Have yet to travel in any EVO, but I am a fan. The 2001 VII seems a very different machine to the previous models doesn't it? Going on the basis that a Lancer would be strictly a weekend playmate, the hardcore 330 bhp EVO VI RS Sprint was really the daddy. So stripped it didn't even have central locking! The Mak' was probably the swansong of the 'old school' Lancer.

The seven looks much more subtle I agree. Would still rip your head off even in standard 2001 model tune no doubt. Second hand, the VI and VII appear to be great value. 'New' variants seem to come along so quickly that even VII FQ and MRs are now yesterdays news and, as a result, down into mid-high teens privately.

Insane performance for the money. Would still take a B5 S4 of course. Couldn't live with all the unwanted attention of an EVO.

Love them. the turbo kick in is brutal, but i think they are great cars, and the rally style image, with the lairy kit and high perfomance for the price, not to mention the clever gear (AYC, VCD etc) which helps you to get good lines even if you slightly overcook it. There is the fact that you will be stalked by chavs, but you will be able to blow any scoobies away with one of the 300BHP+ models.

Think id prefer a skyline.

totally, but the one you want, an R34 GT-R V-spec II comes in at £45k+ for a really good, looked after low miler, whereas a nearly new well looked after evo 320 will be under £30k. Everyone with an interest in the evo would like a skyline, but in the same way that alot of scooby owners want an evo, but cant afford the car (or the extortionate costs of running)
