dsheen
Hi I've just had my A3 2.0TDI Remapped and Might I say the results are great.. The car is completly changed and responding so much better. That powerful torque is kicking in way down in the revs and with 180BHP I'm well happy... My question is, What are the downfalls of me using this modification.. Engine wear/possible damage, does it effect engine life? Is there anything I should watch out for??? Its a brand new car so I dont want to end up limping back to the Garage with a bust, modified engine!!! Thanks, D

Just make sure you take good care of it and get it serviced properly, and it should be ok.
dsheen
I'm in Ireland. I've had it done by a crowd called Turbo Tech. I'm not sure which system they are using..

SJC1975
I have had all of my turbo cars chipped (but not my current Audi just yet!) Main issues: - Hoses break or fall off at high boost - Turbo's can fail (even on low mileage!) - Engine can overheat in Summer - Clutch will go in half the time - Tyres (wheel spin) I normally keep my chipped motors 12months max and let somebody else have the repair bills! BenjaminTDI
Which cars have you had chipped? & what was the age/mileage? shao_khan
My TT did 16k miles running AMD 275bhp, no issues at all related to the remap, only Audi quality......
damianmkv
The day after my car was re-mapped,the bearings on the turbo became noisy. Maybe a coincidence ? Anyway VW replaced the turbo under warranty ( at 7500 miles ). When the new turbo was on, all was fine. Til VW replaced the ECU coz they deemed it faulty. Damn! Oh well

[/ QUOTE ] Emailed Ed down in TurboTech in Bray last January and this was his reply: [ QUOTE ] Hello Keith At Present i am unable to remap by obd( Serial Port ) But have been told by my Italian counterparts that i will be in the next few months. If i were you i wouldnt price this modification as even if you dont go ahead with it they will assume that you have already. Regards Ed [/ QUOTE ] Anyway the Italian counterparts bit might be a clue to whose maps they use. Anyone know which tuning firm is Italian based? You're definitely talking about a remap rather than a tuningbox, right Sheener?? If its a remap, did he do your remap by OBD in the end or by removing the ECU? How much did he charge? Are you living in the Bray area btw mate. I see another black 2.0TDI around Bray quite regularily. '05 3 door Ambition , Single Frame grill and Votex Spoiler??? I wonder is it you? Might call down to Ed again now that I hear he actual has the 2.0TDI Serial port mapping in. Told the bugger to ring me when they could do my 2.0TDI
damianmkv
[ QUOTE ] whoah, what did you do about your remap with the new ecu? [/ QUOTE ] Nothing I could do. The car broke car and was taken back to my dealer. They had it for a week then discovered the faulty ECU so they ordered a new one. Nothing was said by VW to me about it - that was 3 weeks ago
damianmkv
Forgot to say that Superchips will re-map the new car free of charge as I only had 6 weeks use out of the other one. Excellent service I reckon

Yeah its definitly a remap and he didn't have to take the ECU out all done by the port, took about an hour and a half. Mines the Black '04 2.0TDI Ambition you may have seen parked outside the shop on Albert Ave on your way down to Park outside the heatherHouse Hotel/Martell/Koo. I promise I didn't follow you home!! Honest Saw you drive past once and caught a glimpse of the spoiler. Was thrilled to see the car parked ouside the martello when I drove past later, so I pulled alongside for a closer look at the spoiler. Couldn't make up my mind between the SLine Spoiler or the Votex and had seen neither in the flesh previously. Votex looks a lot better in the flesh after seeing yours which is great because its about €150 cheaper too! Anyway, back to the remap. How did cost if you don't mind me asking? Have you told the Insurance Co. and if so how much did your premium go up? Did you get a before and after bhp figure. Does Ed have a set of Rollers now? Sorry about all the questions!
