GTI Air Intake?

Hi all TSN'ers

I am relatively new to TSN, and this is my first proper post!

I'm interested in possibly the ECU re-map and the exhausts (money permitting etc...!) but I was wondering if anyone knows of any air intakes for the GTI? All that I have seen ppl talk about is the ECU re-map and exhausts. My previous experiences (although limited!) are that you can get air intakes in conjunction with an exhaust to maximise performance.

Any thoughts? znaika.gif

Firstly a warm welcome!

If you are planning to re-map then definitely go for the Milltek Turbo-back (aka Hi-flow) system. It's specifically designed to maximise efficiency of flow and will get the most out of a re-map.

Regards re-mapping: I'm doubtless going to get disagreed with on what follows: Be wary of "undetectable" re-maps which claim that they re-set the ECU to standard and are supposed to be untraceable - This technology really isn't perfected yet. Be wary of tuners that don't firstly use a good rolling road to diagnose and plot your individual car as existing. What works for Audis or other cars isn't necessarily perfected for the Mk5 GTI. Talk to all the main tuners but defo include West Tuning - Ray West has major experience and in more than just tuning alone and he goes the extra mile.

Forge are working on an induction system for the GTI but their valve gives no performance improvement and is just a noise effect. Personally I'm not sure about their re-mapping. High bhp numbers is not what it's all about.

How long have you had your GTI? Are you unhappy with it's standard performance?

Thanks welcome Red, I have seen u on the forum a lot!

I have had the GTI for about 4 months now and done 4k. I am happy with the performance but under full throttle I was expecting a bit more of a growl from the engine! Perhaps this can come from a turbo back exhaust??? A few of my mates have induction kits for their cars and it definately gives the engine more grunt. I did think that the GTI is probably too new to have any developed for it as yet.

I also thought that this would probably be the first (and cheapest!) upgrade I could do, but it does look like a slippery slope to modding if I start! Still undecided if I want to get the exhaust yet, should be saving for a house!

Still love the GTI tho!

just got in for a 30 mins quick fix on some country lanes... every time i come on here i get the need for a quick blast... this was one of my best quick spins. really learning the country lanes round here like never before. almost had the back out tonight. the brakes were cracking when i got out of her. might need some better brakes...100-0 is quite hairy whena t junction is coming up fast... pulse rate still above 90
