Hi all I'm going for a TD on Thu night and will post my thoughts here.

As few others have had a wizz round te block and quite a few more like me are imminent I thought i'd start a 'catch' thread so they don't get dotted about on page 17 of other threads grin.gif

Look forwqrd to the un biased thoughts especially from the mk4 brigade 169144-ok.gif

Softer than a mk4 (although it handles well)

Much quieter inside and out than a mk4 ~ get the freezer bag clips out!

Poor standard seats (leather on the one I tested). Recaros would be a must after driving a mk4.

DSG was excellent once I got used to it!

Overall, pretty much as expected. Good drive, but still not mad about the looks (but growing a bit!) and a hefty price tag with all the extras.

I am going to put a deposit down, bearing in mind a 12-16 week wait, but not sure if I will take the option up, as I was told about 2 dealers who are selling theor cars now.

Thoughts....

A golf mkv with a big engine!

In every way (except the body being stiffer) it is a lesser car than the MkIV R32.

The MkV feels like a GTTDI $ Motion with a big petrol engine. It is quieter inside without the exhaust noise. Steering is also lighter. The wife thought the exhaust made a rattling noise rather than a rasp!

Didn't particulaly like it - felt jsut like a GTI.

I'll be sticking with the MK IV.

p.s. dealer has been stopped by VW from taking orders until the new year. So they have sold the demo!

I shudder at the thought. Mind you, as the other one I will be having a look at is sold and therefore unavailable for spanking I might have to bite my lip and nip up there.

Chri5 have you got a sales contact there that might actually be capable of computing that “I’d like to come and have a look at/drive of X please” should be followed by a response of “of course sir, when suits you – let’s arrange it at your convenience”?

Obviously I’m getting at the fact that this would be better than the silence I received and then a call from VW asking what I thought of the new GTi!!!

020 8920 4000 ask for PAS and tell him I told you about it.

I'll demand some discount or sales commission, if you buy that one wink.gif

They are poor, the sales quality at AD- But since he told me he will get a 3 dr manual, jsut for my TD, that's some way towards sales service that wasn't present 3 years ago when I got R3VWG

Cheers Mulkbear for getting the thread back on topic 169144-ok.gif

I dunno thise mkiv boys jump on a thread like the do the loud pedal no matter what the topic/road grin.gif

Interesting comment about the ride Mulkbear in your opinion is it firmer than the GTI ? The recent AUtocar twin test with 130i said the bee'em was a real filling shaker and the R32 was much better.

I agree with you about the fake ali/chrome ... that ash tray !! looks like a foil job from a club on a chav estate ! .... If I like the way it drives may still get one though grin.gif
