justinforbes
I've just got a puncture in one of my front tyres. Have been advised to change at least two, if not all four if it cannot be repaired. Is this the right advice? Cheers for any help
shark_90
Yep. I think on a 4Motion you're meant to change opposite tyres (ie front left, back right) together due to the Haldex 4WD system, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. On 4MO you should get the same tyres on all 4 corners, but as 4MO fun FWD most of the time, fronts generally wear quicker so you can replace fronts without replacing the rears. But if you've got 6mm tread for example on the opposite tyre just buy a new one that the same make, size, load, etc. If tread is getting low then two new tyres would be a good idea! mulkbear
There is only one 4 wheel drive system that needs all four tyre to be the same make and type and that is the old Vauxhall Calibra/Cavlier system The 4motion system has 4 fluid clutch, 1 for each road wheel so there is no diff wind up from uneven tyre's I would use common sense and if you have 3 tyre's above 5mm tread left i would put the new tyre on the back with the best of the 3 and put the other two on the front. Remember always put the tyre's with the most tread on the back.

justinforbes
Its only done 11,000 miles Have decided to change two front tyres with brand new ones. same make etc as backs (treads >5mm) think i should swap the new ones and put them on the back?? why do u have to put the thickest on the back (or am i just being thick?? only just getting into caring for my high performance car!) dealer was about as useful as kick in the teeth. not quite sure i understand the whole diagonal back to front rotational thing. It does not make that must differents on a 4wd vehicle but it helps
