glenjewell
Would you beleive it ? In may I had my local stealer install a set of disks and pads for my A8 at the cost of £ 450. Now (nov) I've been told (becuase I have brake shudder) that my disks and brakes need replacing after 10,000 miles and Audi have offered to replace them again for £ 450. I am disgusted to the extent that I am now fed up with Audi and will look else where - although this breaks my heart as I love me old A8 lady. A8 buyers beware - expect a host of issue with the car but worse still with stealer. I am very very upset.
Ska
Sorry to hear of your probs with the stealer but I'm afraid that it is a well documented issue about the stealers; in my opinion they simply rely on the product badge etc But wait a minute £450 Ihope that wqas at least for all wheels front and aft? I just replaced mine myself for just £220 all in; so I'd advise going to an independant could save your self at least a tonne, better still change them your self the hardest thing is removing the caliper carrier bolts @ 200Nm of torque they require some force to remove but plenty of folk on here have done this service themselves so no shortage of helpful advise
SneakyMcC
Jewell I got quoted £820 for disc's all round. A £500/£300 parts/labour split. I bought some Blackdiamond Performance disc's-n-pads at a special rate. They're much better the the OE rubbish fitted by the stealers. I paid £315 for the parts and fit'em meyself! http://www.blackdiamondperformance.com/
crasher
Jewel, brakes are my bane at the moment. I upgraded my front back in June to Porsche GT3 discs, calipers and Pads (at an undisclosed cost at AmD). 2 months later and I got severe judder which lead to the discs and bells being replaced (under warranty). Now I am experiencing identical issues. Not had chance to go back yet, however my ABS lights have gone awol suggesting a deeper-rooted problem... Sneaky, you reckon the blackdiamond discs would sit happy with my porka calipers? Or would I have to scrap the lot?
Huss
Jewell It's either faulty components or too much right foot. I had all discs and pads replaced at around 40,000 and am now closing in on 80,000 mls and they are still fine. This ncludes a daily trawl through south London (80 mile round trip) from home in Surrey to the City. 10,000 from a set seems wrong to me
SneakyMcC
[ QUOTE ] Sneaky, you reckon the blackdiamond discs would sit happy with my porka calipers? Or would I have to scrap the lot? [/ QUOTE ] Sorry m8, I have no idea. On PW's Audipages the centres of the Porker disc needed changing didn't they? The BD disc is a direct OE replacement so I guess they'd not fit your GT3 calipers? Whats the diameter of them? If you wanna pop over I can whip a disc off if you wanna try it?
SneakyMcC
[ QUOTE ] 10,000 from a set seems wrong to me [/ QUOTE ] I do phuck all mls now days, but I bet I was getting 15k-20k on OE discs. The wife normally drives ours (I'm a weekend warrior!). The OE setup was crap too. These make it adequate
glenjewell
Thanks to all for the comments and response. I have decided to get them done at my local for about £ 200 all in using genuine stealer parts. Sod the dealership, ripped off once too often. Incidently the previous set of pads lasted me at least 40k so its go to be down to poor installation or parts.
