P_G
I know, I know, a topic that has been posted a few times before, but now it's my time for renewal and having looked around I'm not impressed. My renewal quote is near enough £930, privilege is more, Elephant is more, Directline is more. The only people who have come in cheaper are Adrian Flux at just shy of £700; however MrMe has given me the jitters regarding them so who would you / are you / have you used? Talking about a 2004 S4 saloon, 32 years of age (I know, I don't look it) one SP30 in 2003, car value approx. £30,000 Help!!
JamesB
Privilege was cheapest for me when I had my S4. I was 32, full NCD, clean license. I have heard people knock the bodyshops they use (Insurance Jon, maybe, apologies if I'm wrong) but I once had reason to use them about 7 years ago when someone drove into me and the claim took a while to sort and they seemed to do a good job. Plus they were fast and efficient. They also quoted me a very small increase when I asked them Iabout mods. If you're thinking of going down that route, it may be worth getting quotes modded and unmodded (well, less modded in your case ), as different companies seem to vary enormously. I'm not sure that adds anything to your dilemma and I'm probably teaching my grandmother to suck eggs but that's my experience
Tizzy
I used Barry Grainger - after a recommendation from a friend and also in EVO magazine. Cheaper than Elephant, Privilege etc. and didn't demand a tracker as many do. Cost was c. £700 (that included a £90 adder to protect my full NCB. I'm 37, 3 points (SP60) and car is garaged and similar value to yours. Hope that helps.
mb
Hi I am looking at moving to an S4 and Norwich Union direct were the best for me (were also best for my R32) they were also OK about mods - never claimed off them so no idea how that works but seem OK on teh quote side, adjusted for business use with no hassle etc. Cheers Martin
CabGirl
I renewed in the summer with First Alternative - they came in about £500 less than my Diamond renewal.
Milo
I've just ran a quote for an S4 cab through First Alternative and they were £600 as opposed to £800 @ Admiral I then checked the excess - £500 compulsory + £150 voluntary Changing this to just £500 compulsory pushed it over £700. I think Admiral @ £800 was a £250 excess. Crafty FA
Kell
Have you tried any of the specialist brokers? Livingstones Adrian Flux Noel Dazely? You may find they offer you a much better deal.
18ME
I'm with Privilege at the mo as they were very reasonable with mods. Around £580 full NCB but without protected no claims (don't believe in it anymore), similar value and was aged 38 at the time.
John_Doe
Sainsburys car insurance ....alternatively if the quote is unsuitable to your needs they do a mean selection of fresh cream cakes.........
Sponge
[ QUOTE ] ...but without protected no claims (don't believe in it anymore)... [/ QUOTE ] We have our NCB protected, but I've often wondered. What are your reasons for not using it?
pablos4
First Alternative were the only insurers that came in sub-1000 for me, after checking all the usual suspects. Like CG for me they were a good 500 quid cheaper than the nearest quote. Problem for me is living in (postcode terms) a scroaty part of Manchester. Have had no issues with them apart from their crap online system couldn't handle my bank details from Citibank for DD... And their offshore call centre really is truly abhorrent... Scotty
When I trashed my TT (£15.5K worth of damage) I renewed the following year with the same company and there was no increase at all.
gizze
I think Protected NCB is ok if you stay with the same insurer, however all new claims now ask if you have had a claim in the last 5 years, they never did before Protected came in. Who are good insurers to use when you want to chip a car?
CraigR
PG, try Admiral, i am with them and pay around the same as you are with my colourful driving record !!!! My details are the same as yours 32 with full no claims. Give them a call.
P_G
Thanks for all the advice. Having done the ring around and a few online all are quoting in excess of a grand except First Alternative although they are not cheaper than my renewal quote. However the cheapest so far is Adrian Flux at approx £750 with a policy from Royal Sun Alliance, however they cannot quote me that just yet as that is in their November discounts, I have to ring back next week to verify once they have their December policies in. Insurers are a thieving bunch of 's and I should know, my father was in the game for 25 years and I still never agree with him on the subject. I'm sorry, but if anyone goes five years without a claim do we get any reward, bugger all, just increased premiums. Anyway, a message for MrMe, I know you warned me against Adrian Flux, but at this point it's the way to go and the £200+ saving will come in handy (by the way all the excesses and policy benefits are the same bar another £10 on the windscreen excess). If anyone has anymore suggestions, keep them comning, I don't have to renew until December.
colly
I would try norwich union \ auto trader website. Auto trader website insurance section quotes on many companies in price order, i insured mine with a quote through there. I couldn't get insured for less than 2.5K A3 1.8TS first insurance policy (on parents for 2 yrs), in the end I opted for the norwich union quote (1375 with breakdown), this is a special policy (1K excess if my fault) but the best I could find. I would give them a try you could get it much less.

[/ QUOTE ] We have our NCB protected, but I've often wondered. What are your reasons for not using it? [/ QUOTE ] I opted a couple of years ago not to load insurance policies up with extra covers (inc home insurance etc) and I've saved quite a lot in doing so. I also realise what happens if I make a claim on anything but thats the choice I've made and I am usually very careful and I've not had to make a claim in many years on anything. Chav
Dunno if it helps, but DirectLine always give good deals if you have other car policies with them etc, and you moan at them!

Crafty FA [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the head's up on that one Milo I was thinking about switching to Sainsbury's bank but they are the same (I think both First Alternative and Sainsburys are actually Esure). I don't actually mind a big XS (provided it's reflected in the premium) but I REALLY object to the underhand way they present the information. I'm sure plenty of people miss it, I think I would if I hadn't re-read this post. Didn't want to give esure my business anyhow (sh*te adverts). More than's web quote was even more irritating. Took loads of info first then could cover my car.
P_G
Well, after much searching I'm either going for Swiftcover.com or Adrian Flux. Have tried everyone you guys have suggested, for which I thank you; however all were more expensive or exactly the same as Sainsbury's with exception to these two. I'll let you know how I get on with them MrMe.
gizze
Adrian Flux is great because they don't charge you loads more if you modify your car, and you never know when you may feel the need.
