This morning's method was: turn on the engine, scrape the side windows, turn on the heater, scrape the windscreen, (get covered in scraped ice cos I have to lean against the car to reach the middle of the windscreen cos I'm too short!), quick squirt of de-icer, get into car, defrost my fingers, drive to work.

No garage for me - engine on, scrape car (carefully!), bit of de ice, sit in car, warm fingers. Drive off when can see fully. Round near my Mum's house there was a spate last year of plonkers leaving their cars running on the drive to warm up and going back indoors - and hey presto, loads of cars just driven off........

I NEVER EVER EVER leave the car running. Not even to get out and post a letter at the box box! Paranoid...moi.....?!!

I don't see how it can be. I'll await the rush of replys.

For me I turn on the engine, demisters and heated seat, then spray the front. Moving on to 'er in doors car. I spray this with loads because if I don't, by the time she's up and ready to go over an hour later it could of iced up again. Anyway back to mine, I then get in and open the front widows, otherwise my breath steams the windscreen up. Five minutes later I wizz off, remembering to turn all the battery sucking stuff off asap. 169144-ok.gif

I do the kettle trick, just warm water from the tap.

Or I sometimes put de-icer on the screen the night before, as it stops the car windows on the screen at least form icing up.

As far as I'm aware I think its illegal to leave a car running without the driver present and you insurance company certainly won't pay out if someone does nick it off the drive for this very reason. In other countries top end BMW / Mercs etc. can be set to auto start in the morning whilst still being locked etc. but we can't have it in this country I think again because of the law.

My other half put her car in the garage for the first time today. She called on the way to work as she was laughing at the other people in ths street freezing as theirs defrosted, bless her. Don't put mine is cause I work from home. grin.gif

Exactly. Not boiling water, just warm enough, so you could run it over your hands no problem. Doesn't take a lot to thaw a bit of ice or frost.

Ari - I genuinely thought you was being sarcastic in your post above.

Even if the water's not hot, the point that it defrosts your car quickly is very bad for the paintwork. This is how you'll crack the paint. crazy.gif

I use my garage and can't understand why 90% of people with garages pile them with crap and don't use them. SPericani2.gif

Hate these frost starts, my current car has not really been used properly since I was away for 2 weeks so it seems to be misting up inside all the time, so bad that this AM it was frozen on the inside of the windscreen. Cleared my outside windows with scraper and de-icer spray on windscreen only but sat inside the thing for ages waiting for the frozen mist to clear!

Need to find out what a neighbour does to her car as no matter how bad the frost is she just squirts a bit of spray, gets in and then drives off, how does that work, surely she cannot see a thing! blush.gif

Really?? What, just a bit of luke warm water..? confused.gif

Warm water being poored over the car is no worse than the sun pointing on a small part of the car in the morning. I have never had an issue with using warm water. I point it to the top of the windows, by the time the water has hit the ice and gets to any paint it won't be warm then. Cars live in extreme hot temperatures and then get rained on with the rain almost boiling, they can take it believe me.
