Find out if you have a DVLA office nearby so you can go there with the paperwork. This saves sending all the documents off and should speed up the process, and I was nervous about sending everything off in case it got lost or if I had filled anything in wrong. You need to get a form (can't remember the name but its on the DVLA website where you maybe allowed to download it) for cherished registration transfer. Fill this in, take all the documents for the car and the new plate with you and a chequebook (to pay transfer fee - £80 I think) to the DVLA office and the new documents will arrive in the post. I think the tax disc arrives first and once you get that, you need to get the plate on within 24hrs. The original plate stays in the system and is usually not assigned to another vehicle. I had a plate on my bike for 2 years and when I sold it, swapped the plate onto the car and got the original plate back for the bike. If you want to you can put the plate on retention (like you have now with the new plate) but it costs and adds to the paperwork. If they don't have your number available to transfer back at the time you sell the car, you will be issued another plate from the correct year.

All you need to do is go to your local DVLA office (Google on DVLA and it'll tell you where your local office is) and they will provide a form to transfer the number plate over. It costs £125 if you have not paid the registration fee for the donor (private) plate (which is £80).

You'll need your V5C form for your car, the registration document for your Private Plate, Insurance Documents and money!

All will be explained at your DVLA office. Our local office were excellent with me and DVLA Swansea turned around the documantation in 5 days. 169144-ok.gif

As per the posts above, but if you keep your original plates (i.e. the ones that bolt onto the car), then, if you decide to transfer your plate onto another car when you come to sell your R32, you can put them back on, although this is dependent on the DVLA re-issuing the original plate back to your car.

It is very rare that they don't - I have had private plates on mine and Mrs Mook's cars for the past 10 years and have never not been given the original registration number back to put on the car before selling it.
