RedRobin
Does anyone please know what the snowflake symbol with outside temperature readout is all about when it pings and flashes? I never even noticed it was there until it pinged! This is on Midline. Can I change it to from Centigrade to Fahrenheit on Midline? [My handbook is in the car and someone somewhere might benefit from this little discussion]. Cheers on a sunny bright and frosty morning
simkna
I think your car is calling you a snowflake Robin!! Seriously, it's just a warning that old Jacky Frost is about and things may be slippy - obviously we're not bright enough to figure that out for ourselves from the fact that the temp figures are so low, and we've just spent 5 minutes scraping ice off the windscreen. Si.
WhiteHArtMart
On previous VW/Audis I've had - the snowflake came on when the temp outside fell to 5 degrees or below to warn of the possible risk of ice! Mine was on this morning - as it was -0.5 when I left home - but them heated seats came in really handy!!
Paddy_Driver
I think in car terms it means possible black ice... surely all those traction, stability and braking controls on the GTI should protect you;-)

RedRobin
Thanks guys . As mine is garaged I don't have to scrape anymore but I think it's a good and welcome feature. I've noticed that nothing is displayed above 5 degrees. ESP will help but you still have to take precautions or care. Centigrade to Fahrenheit settings, anyone? aswall
The BMW one came on at 3 degrees which seems a bit more useful, mine came on yesterday a 4.5 and didn't go off again 'til it was over

[/ QUOTE ] Perfect for big, fat, gussly 3.2 V6s as well, but it kind of messes with any sotr of decent fuel consumption!!! The Snowflake symbol is the 'Frost' warning, as frost can from just below 5 degs, so you could hit ice or slippery conditions when in fact it doesn't seem like there could be any. Snoopy
I must admitt when i first had a VW group car with this on and the thing pinged at 4 degrees i nearly myself. Its does start to get on your wick at times. Its normal.
Simonl
i love the sound it makes, like the seatbelt 'ping' on an airplane don't you think.
aswall
The trouble is, with it coming on at 5 degrees, it will be on permanently for the next 3-4 months now which kind of diminishes it's usefulness. Still think BMWs setting of 3 is best.
RedRobin
It caught me unawares too and I thought the ping was telling me something much more seriously wrong had happened. But I like the ping too....Defo airplane associations
