chats
Have a 2002 Passat, and it says in the manual that the car is fitted with a mobile phone aerial, integrated to the radio aerial. I assume it's the spiral bit on the aerial. Anyone know how to connect to it? Similarly, how do you get the radio/cd/climate facia out?
v23
The radio comes out with the use of keys available from VW at around a fiver, or they'll do it for you for free. They go into two very small vertical slots towards the side of the headunit. You should just be able to unplug the aerial from the radio and plug your phone direct into the aerial somehow and then connect this back to the radio. chats
Thanks for the tip on removal, I'll get the part and have a root around for any 'spare' connectors. Inspection of the fusebox indicates there should be a phone feed somewhere, and the manual also suggests there is a microphone fitted.
meriafel
Please let us all know how you get on. I am on my second 'licence holder aerial' which buckle in the heat and fall off due to the poor adhesive, even at £15 each.
chats
Aquired the removal tool yesterday, local VW agent wouldn't sell me them, so got one at the local parts store. Had a quick look yesterday and couldn't see anything obvious, so I'll continue the hunt. Does anyone have a copy of the workshop manual to help in my quest for the end of the wires? On licence holder aerial, I've seen comment elsewhere they interfere with the radio anyway. What's your experience?
chats
Still can't find these leads, anyone taken the rear headlining out to see if there are two connections or wires coming from the aerial?
Lordz
Doubt you will find an extra plug but as tax disc antennas are crap and ugly just use a strip antenna instead its about 4 inches long and one to 2 cm's wide and can easily be hidden under the roof lining on windscreen or even behind 'A pillar' cover, its not really the antenna causing interference but mostly the phone itself in proximity to the radio mostly caused with O2 maybe Orange and Vodafone effecting the Beta and Gamma radio's,in this case you would fit a speaker instead of the usual pumping the sound through the radio's own inputs also a mute kit would be okay but you would have to hold the 'TP' button and minimise the phone input volume and with a mute kit dont need to connect the mute wire as long as it mutes the rear speakers during a call. meriafel
nsr2206, Not had any trouble with the licence holder aerial apart from the adhesive and the poor plastic. The kit was fitted by the previous owner for a nokia 6310i and consists of a Nokia box covered in foam to the left of the blower motor which does all the usual things. Mutes radio/cd etc on incoming/outgoing calls and has never caused any interference. Am interested to see how you get on with connecting to the aerial as my 'tax disc aerial' minus adhesive is pushed between dash and screen and masked by the screen etching. A fine is imminent! Will have a look in my new Haynes that arrived today re the phone connection to aerial.
chats
Got the Haynes manual, it doesn't help much, seems to ignore 'phones in general apart from in passing. Anyone got Bentley?
chats
Got hold of a workshop manual, it appears that the connectors for the phone, including supplies, links to the radio, aerial, and microphone, are all under the centre console. I'll look and advise when I've a moment. VW also suggest in armrest mounting - perhaps to get over the radio interference when the phone is on the dash. chats
Installed my Nokia kit, discovered that if you open the Nokia microphone, the circuit board fits really neatly in to the hole available for the mic in the centre light unit, so no ugly mic on the outside, and it works just fine. Can't trace the aerial at all. And there are no connections under the armrest, so that ends that theory.
topgazza
nsr2206. I have ahands free kit fitted and the mic has been perched ontop of the light unit. Have you got a pick or a description of what the hole for the mic in the light unit looks like please. I fancy a go myself
