Is it just me or does it take ages to defrost the R.

I'm going into my third winter with it now and everytime

I need to defrost it I always think it takes too long.

Theres plenty of heat there, its just the blower isn't

powerful enough to blast the heat up the windscreen.

Before I get any smart replies, yes the CC is set to max speed, max temp and demister mode only.

thank christ for that - thought it was just my car - Windscreen is crap to defug. Crying out for heated element, but have now resigned myself to keeping chamois in the car to wipe screen - then the blower is not so bad.

Must try clsoing side-window vents to see if that helps

Worst mistake!!!! wiping the screen leaves micro deposits which cause the screen to condnesate and steam up even more.

Never wipe the inside glass in a car or the problem gets worse and never goes away!

No ones mentioned it, but it does seem like an obvious thing to do, I close all the vents on the dash, & put both heated seats on, just to help raise the temp in the cabbin. Also, I don't know if anyone has noticed, but hitting the windscreen vent button puts the fans 1 bar down from full power (or at least it does on mine). Still doesn't make it that much quicker, but every little helps.

The annoying thing I discovered this morning is my wing mirrors aren't heating properly, in my 20 min drive to work, they were only just starting to have effect and dry the water that was left from my scraping. frown.gif

never wipe the inside of the screen or scrape the outside.

Just start it up and wait.

The reason I was asking is I've also got a passat with the same CC system. It clears quicker than the R and its a diesel. I'm not sure if your can use a vagcom to set the blower speeds or not ?

That was one thing my old mondeo had going for it. The heated screen was great in the winter, wonder why these screens didn't really catch on with other manufactufers.

Smudge - sounds like you have dodgy electrics...

My mirrors and rear window start defogging almost immediately the button is pushed - and are usually clear in under 5 minutes.

Windscreen takes maybe 2-3 minutes to clear enough to see safely through, and maybe 7-8 minutes to fully clear.

That's with an average morning temperature of -6C in winter. Luckily I don't have this problem other than the real winter months. smile.gif
