AGK512
Hi all Can the hiline computer disply your speed in mph/kph ? Salesman said no but i'd have thought it would be a fairly standard feature ? and v useful for setting cruise/euro driving also can you dim the brightness ? on my TD it was a bit too bright cheers
jason_s
dimmer is via a nob you have to twirl. highline doesnt display speed at all (or so i think). the numbers are painted on the tachometer. so unless it comes out with a brush and re paints the numbers i cant see how it could work. silentandy
I haven't looked at what the computer does for a while but I seem to remember a menu where you could select between kms & miles for average speed display etc.
jason_s
yeah for average speed i think your right but not for current driving speeds. i must have misundertoood you
AGK512
Cheers andyw if it gives things like avg speed i'd have thought you could get current speed. I do some driving in europe each year and having current kph show on comp would be v usefull Cheers
jason_s
do you have current speed on highline in mph at moment?
silentandy
I don't get the current speed, it's things like Ave speed, Ave MPG, instant MPG, distance, range & time.

AGK512
Thanks guys Wonder if the DVD nav shows it ?
RedRobin
Do you mean does the Nav display such info on its screen? I don't think so but I don't know for sure. My aftermarket Pioneer system has an extra goodie which will display loads of car stats on its touch screen but it's a bit of a toy....No point in my view. mu71rd
perhaps if you could set the 'average speed' display to show the average per second then that would be quite useful as a current speed indicator
RedRobin
....That's a cool idea. However, in my case, I drive speedwise according to my Road Angel readout because it's both more accurate and easier to read. Rev counter is okay but I don't like the GTI's speed clock graphic display apart from the red and blue prettiness.
Cleybrooke
becuse the manual had the running in information in metric I used the distance as KPH and Kilometers to run the car in with!
aswall
No the Nav doesn't show the current speed
Snoopy
VW group have a habbit of having funny options on things. For example some of the climate control units like on SEAT models with a press of certain buttons can show the speed and other things. Why i have no idea. I would not be suprised if the mk5 can do funny things like this too.
RedRobin
Such hidden things which the computer programmers put in as goodies are known as "Easter Eggs". It's like an artist might put tiny writing somewhere in his picture which says "Feck Off!!"
silentandy
Being able to see various system values through the climate control is common on many VAG cars. What you can see is documented on this thread over on uk-mkvs: http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/2/55054/ShowPost.aspx#55054
