ashleyminors
My A4 didn't come with an armrest and it's been driving me mad. So I bought one from VAGParts. I've managed to fit the bracket etc (which was quite an achievement in itself for me) but I'm left with the challenge of cutting the plastic centre console trim VAGParts website says that the plastic is probably marked underneath to show you where to cut, but you cant see this without removing the centre console, something which I just don't fancy attempting because its looks a nightmare. So, any ideas as to where I need to cut? I have a pretty rough idea but I'm cutting into the trim so have probably only got one go at it and don’t want to mess it up! Perhaps if anyone has got any photos of their armrest so I can see where I need to start would be helpful or any other ideas.
UBM
Can you run your finger underneath in the hole and find the raised plastic indicating where to cut?

Daz
Tip - start with a small hole in the middle and gradually work your way out to get the right size hole.

Bluedan
UBM could you do me a favour? Could you measure the distances as shown on the attachments? Does the armrest sit centrally in the middle, with equal gap each side? Many thanks
Biscuits
Quick question..... how'd you get the bracket mounted without a hole ???
Bluedan
I am trying to cut the hole, but in the correct place. I have the technical drawing from the Audi Workshop manual which I can put on here if anyone wants, but I made a template from it and layed it over, and one of the dimensions is incorrect, which would leave a big visible hole in the centre console, so I'm glad I did a trial run first! So I wanted to know where the surround sits, as per the above diagram, that way I can locate it properly.

Kaskat
When I fitted my armrest there was pattern made from card that you stuck down to the centre consule before you cut it out (I would not have attempted cutting without that template), I've looked for the template in the garage but alas its gone. If I were you I would pop into an Audi dealership and ask if you can have a photocopy of a template from stock, you never know they might be helpfull
ashleyminors
I fitted mine in the end thanks to the pics from UBM. I cut out a piece of paper the same shape as the bottom of the armrest for a guide just so I could position it in roughly the same place as the pics above. I cut a small hole in the middle of the cosole/where the armrest was to go(with a jigsaw! ) and slowly worked my way to the outside until I could fit the bracket through. As the actual armrest overlaps the hole there is no need to cut a perfect shape. As long as you can fit the bracket through. The armrest sits flush on top of the console and you cannot tell. Looks identical to the pics of other factory fitted armrests. The truth is there is a horrible shaped hole underneath but no one is going to ever see that (I hope.) Bluedan
I have this diagram from the Audi workshop manuals. The problem is dimension "C" is totally wrong and will leave a big hole in the centre console which will be visible, after the armrest is fitted!! This therefore doesn't fill me with confidence, so wanted a more practical "Do-it-yourself" approach! Does this picture look generally correct though? A - 9mm B - 5mm C - 48mm (Wrong!) D - 31mm E - 15mm F - 16mm G - 9mm H - 43mm

Chav
New armrest came out in 2005.... it has a different lever mechanism for raising/lowering, so will have a diff. part number, but either armrest will fit
