Pincher
I want to buy the folks a DVD recorder for Christmas as I know my dad has wanted one for ages and their vidio is just about to pack up. My question is, on a limited budget, which one to go for? There seem to be so many formats to choose from - DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW etc etc. Amy recommendations as to which one does the job on most formats? I imagine that they will want to use re-recordable discs and play stuff they have downloaded from t'internet etc etc. I assume I'll need to get a multi-region one? NeilB
DVD recorders are pretty cheap now. We do a few that are under £100, as do the other supermarkets.
CarMad
This months Waht Hifi has a review of all the cheap DVD recorders. The Panasonic MRES20D wins at £209ish. Great picture/sound, loads of formats and it also has a built in freeview tuner so is furture proof. Panasonic DMRES20DMR fromEmpire direct - Incs multi region support as well. Or there is another cheaper version that only plays UK disks.
NeilB
Theres two things I don't like about my Panasonic DVD recorder. First being the long time it takes to read a disk when you switch it on, bit of an arse if you want to record something righjt away. And second is the fact that it uses DAD-RAM disc's which are an arse to get as I have to go into comet. But the rest is great.

Daz
I think you'll find that the newer recorders have quicker start up times. Panasonic are now claiming a "1 Sec. Quick Start for Recording" on their new models.
