Take the bulb out for the time being - pain in the bum when its dark but might stop the unexpected no start on these cold mornings.

I have noticed with mine that when the boot is open, sometimes the light flicks on and off just once at an interval of between 5 and 10 minutes - strange.

I find on my Golf that when I've been shopping for instance, get out of the car and open the boot straight away that the light flicks on and off for a split second when the internal lights go off.

I've just had this with the saloon. My alarm went off one night and next morning the "luggage compartment open" warning was showing. Thought some scum had tried to break into it but fortunately not. I couldnt open the boot via the remote at all but could unlock it with the key. I gave it a slam shut and its been sweet since. Presumably the saloon suffer from the same cable glitch as the estates?

I have a PD130 Estate and the boot open light is on all the time despite the boot being shut. I've tried locking it even. Is there a sensor somewhere in the boot or is this a dealer job?? confused.gif

hmmm....sounds a bit iffy...have you had a diagnostic check done? there are alot of VW models with Faulty factory alarms..you need to query this at a steeler! i had a problem with mine and i got it fixed as a good will gesture, mind you they only agreed because I made such a fuss and caused a mental scene at the dealership

Gaz did you ever manage to solve this problem?

If yes, How? confused.gif

On the dash display it says that the boot is open, when in fact it isn't. Car locks ok and alarm does not go off, but if I unlock the car and only open the boot it locks itself again after a minute or so.

Any advice greatly appreciated beerchug.gif

Strange you should pick today to ask. As my car is used as a taxi it has various things that yours wont have including taxi plates front and back, I originally fitted the rear one to the rear number plate with a proprietary bracket, this meant I had to drill a 3rd hole in the number plate, the bracket proved to be crap and I took it off and drilled 2 new holes near the bottom of the number plate to hold the taxi plate, but, I had left the 3rd hole previously drilled as just that.... a hole straight into the inside of the tailgate and each time I went in the car wash water was getting into the tailgate through here, I replaced the screw in the hole.........and today was the first time it has been back through the car wash....problem solved.........so if you have a similar problem look for any water ingress locations. Hope this helps. Gaz

Just reread your post and I wonder if the relocking is normal, if you unlock the car via the remote but don't open the doors the car will relock itself after a short time.....maybe about a minute or so. Not sure what happens if you open the boot/tailgate but not the doors.

If i open my boot and forget to open (then close) either the passenger or drivers door then my car relocks itself and sets the alarm. The alarm then goes off and needs reseting with the key.

I have a B5.5 Passat 2001 and have just had a problem with the washer pipe coming loose inside the door trim. This caused the rear wiper to run occasionally on its own.

Take your trim off and have a look, mine was 4 screws. 1 at each end of the trim near the glass and one in each hand hold behind a small cover. MIne then pulled out of its clips.

I found a leak on a junction, pushed the pipe back on and its been fine since. Might be worth a look, seems a common problem with VW.

EDIT... IGNORE ME blush.gif i DONT THINK THE SWITCH IS IN THE ELECTRICAL PARTS THAT GET WET! Although the wiring probably does go through the area, oohhh i dont know grin.gif
